I followed in my grandfather, father and brother's footsteps into the commercial electrical construction industry by joining Local 98 in August of 1972. I completed my apprenticeship training, and took my 1st job as a journeyman wireman (in the middle of a deep recession) by travelling to Aliquippa, PA in August, 1976. As the economy of my home jurisdiction recovered, I worked on many interesting projects, and was first tested as a sub-foreman at the Philadelphia Stock Exchange in 1981. Some other notable projects included the 1st computer labs at Villanova University, Price Waterhouse Renovation in the United Engineer's Building, the Mellon Bank Center Base Building, several years of manufacturing equipment installation at 3M in Bristol, PA, the Institute for Advanced Science and Technology at University of Pennsylvania, the Lowe's Hotel Renovation of the PSFS Building, Radiology Department and Minimally Invasive Operatories at Pennsylvania Hospital, Main Switchgear Replacement at U of P's Museum, and the Main Post Office Renovation from which I retired in August of 2010. Feb 1993 - Aug 1997
      Foreman / sub-foreman

Supervised the installation of two (2) $1 Million dollar tape slitting machines, their conveyor systems and a Robot Palletizer, modified many control systems throughout the plant, and remapped the control diagrams for the Main Office in Minneapolis, MN (using AutoCAD 13). Also, engineered and installed OSHA required machine guarding plant-wide. In early 1996, I was called upon to design in-deck conduit systems for the 5-story Institute for Advanced Science and Technology at U of P, and prepared as-built drawings for this project and the Women and Infant's Project at HUP. • Union Electric

      Sept 2003 - Feb 2004
      Foreman

Supervised renovation of the Radiology Reading Room, the installation of new switchgear, and a Siemens CT Scanner. My project manager was very supportive, and I felt my work was greatly appreciated.

    • J. W. Carrigan, Inc.

      Apr 2004 - Feb 2008
      Foreman

I started with J W Carrigan at Pennsylvania Hospital, renovating space to provide 2 new Minimally Invasive Operatories. Once completed, we renovated space to provide a new Radiology department, and updated public space through the 1st floor. From there, we moved to the University of Pennsylvania, where the Museum's switchgear needed replacement. There was limited space, existing secondary conduit, and extensive redistribution conduit to be installed. A great team helped me accomplish this. I regard the members of that team to be some of the most supportive individuals I had the pleasure of working with throughout my entire career. Show less

    • Larry C. McCrae, Inc.

      Feb 2008 - Jul 2010
      Project Coordinator

I was called upon to coordinate the electrical systems for this project, which I consider to be the high-water mark of my career. Each of the 5 full floors of this restoration project measured 4 1/2 acres with 10 electric closets on each. The coordination team, led by a very capable group from Keating, worked in an extremely cooperative atmosphere, which served as an example which I strive to emulate as I move from project to project.

    • ECGrafix

      Aug 2010 - now

After a 38 year career in Commercial Electrical Construction, I established my own business which focuses on providing Computer Aided Drafting services to the Electrical Contractors. My primary goal is to establish a highly specialized coordination process for the industry at a reasonable cost. Secondarily, spatial planning and detail drawings assist the contractor to achieve clarity and efficiency in the installation phase. And, last but not least, as-built drawings are essential to contract document fulfillment. Show less

    • Gordon Group Electric

      May 2017 - May 2020
      BIM Consultant / Project Coordinator

Gordon Group Electric had several projects requiring BIM coordination. My services were called upon to provide additional support for their BIM team. The first project I tackled for them was Axalta Coating Systems Global Innovation Center in the Naval Business Center. The complex consists of a 2 story office building and single story laboratory and mechanical buildings encompassing 175,00 square feet. Further on, I put together a set of layout drawings for the individual units on each floor of the 'W' Hotel Project. Most recently, I completed BIM coordination of the University of the Sciences new 6 story first year residence hall at 46th Street and Woodland Avenue. Show less
