      Apr 2013 - Oct 2013
      I.T. Systems Administrator

Started this position after the long absence of the previous person who held the role. Began by cleaning servers and workstations of trojan/root-kit infections. Re-designed and re-wired the office network to operate at full gigabit speed. Re-built failing RAID arrays (1 & 5) on the main server. Combined the roles of the two barely utilized servers (three total) into one. There were now two unused servers to re-purpose. Turned one of them into a pfSense IPS/IDS firewall/router (RAID 1) as the backbone for their network. The third sits as a backup for the other two and its' drives as spares.Secured multiple wireless networks using WPA/WPA2 authentication and TKIP/AES encryption. Added several additional access points and directional antennas to link other areas of the 13 acre property for usage in a custom-programmed inventory management system (see PROJECTS page!)Implemented network/computerized time-clock system and linked multiples sites together via VPN to make weekly payroll easier and more accurate. Replaced outdated and non-functional network fax software with an affordable, up-to-date version of another software. Designed and implemented new company website using HTML/CSS and hosted it on their existing server using IIS. Configured e-mail forwarding from domain registrar to give each employee their own e-mail address that all funnels into one main company e-mail account and setup unique signatures for each employee.Created full documentation for all changes made to network and systems, including a graphical network/systems map. Wrote network/internet troubleshooting procedures for use with network systems map in case network ever needs repairs (hardware resets, etc.) in my absence. Other duties include repairing DSL/phone lines when damaged and improving line quality, installing & repairing IP camera surveillance and low-voltage alarm systems, assisting office staff and other departments, quality control inspection, and feeding the office animals. I.T. Systems Engineer

So, what is a Systems Engineer? The job title has many different roles, depending on the type of company you are working for in that role. In my case, I was performing the role for a Value-added Reseller (VAR) and Managed Service Provider (MSP).Systems is a collective term referring to all of the servers, workstations, mobile, peripheral and networking devices making up a company's I.T. infrastructure.Engineer refers to the design, implementation, documentation, monitoring, disaster planning, policy creation/enforcement, and management of those systems. So, in a nutshell : I designed, implemented, monitored, managed, and planned for the eventual failure of, all of the various systems for a wide array of businesses and industries. Some of the main industries I worked with are : Medical, Dental, Legal, Agricultural, Architectural, Educational, and Financial.I worked on a wide variety of platforms, including : Windows, Apple/Mac, FreeBSD, Linux, and mobile devices. And of course, being the security enthusiast I am, I got to choose and work with the very best that the industry has to offer, such as : Palo Alto Networks, Juniper Networks, Cisco Meraki, Aerohive Networks, LabTech RMM, and G Data Business Anti-Virus.Best of all, this job was the gateway to working in banking cyber-security. I got to see alerts from and communicate with multiple 3-letter agencies, and help defend banks against the big bad guys.- - -Ronin Company Website --> http://www.myronin.comPalo Alto Networks --> https://www.paloaltonetworks.com/company.htmlJuniper Networks --> http://www.juniper.net/us/en/company/profile/Cisco Meraki --> https://meraki.cisco.com/company/aboutAeroHive Networks --> http://www.aerohive.com/companyLabTech Software --> http://www.labtechsoftware.com/company.phpG Data Software --> https://www.gdata-software.com/about-g-data.html Show less

    • Torus Group, LLC

      Mar 2015 - Apr 2016
I.T. Systems & Network Security Engineer

I am working again for one of my former employers, Expert I.T. Solutions. The two co-owners broke off their partnership sometime in 2014. One of them kept the old company name, while the other decided to partner with his old friend and buy out an existing well-established MSP business - at that time, named "Torus Business Group, LLC". The name was shortened to simply "Torus Group" and remains an LLC.Given my past experience, especially the MSP and engineering skills acquired at Ronin, my former employer reached out to me from Arizona to extend a salaried job offer to be an integral part of this rapidly changing and expanding business. I began by doing remote work from California, but wasn't able to work at my full capacity across state lines. After some discussion, I decided to relocate permanently back to the Phoenix, Arizona area and have been here now for about two months. My job duties are extremely varied. I'm in charge of maintaining our fully loaded server rack at a major Data Center in downtown Phoenix. The Colo is fed by two different power companies and has giant diesel generators as a backup even if both power companies went down. In addition, there are *seven* ISP's providing fiber internet in that downtown area. It's a prime location with extreme redundancy for both power and internet connectivity.Additionally, my duties include on-site and remote work for over 50 medium to large businesses in the greater Phoenix area. I am in the process of moving his existing clients over to the LabTech RMM platform and rolling out our own VoIP hosting services. To do so, much of the server rack needs some redesign work, as follows :Perimeter IPS/IDS firewall to be converted to Palo Alto NetworksInternal routing to be converted to Juniper Networks productsManaged switch to be upgraded to provide optimal switching for multiple SAN'sSAN firmware to be converted to more robust and reliable solution... and much more - but I've ran out of space!
