      Aug 2018 - Nov 2018
Commercial Sales Consultant Trainee (Emersive Training - Self Funded)

In late 2018 I started training to become a Commercial Real Estate Salesperson. I worked alongside the Commercial Team at the NAI Harcourts Grenadier City Office to complete the National Certificate in Real Estate (Salesperson) Level 4, reporting to the Commercial Manager Ben Murphy who supervised my industry training through Harcourts Academy and the Skills Organization. I became an REA Licencee (Salesperson) on 14 on November 2018. I elected to transition into Sales from Christchurch’s Electrical/Construction Industry where I had firsthand exposure to the “grime and grit” of Christchurch’s Commercial Buildings right down to the ‘coalface’. The new Real Estate Industry knowledge that I’ve acquired through my Real Estate Industry Training, as well as some niche knowledge that I’ve honed through past experience and tertiary studies in growth sectors integral to the current Christchurch economy, such as the Construction Trades, Electrical Contracting, Consumer Electronics Sales, Professional Engineering, and Technology, is something that I ultimately hope to turn into a competitive advantage.** Licensed REAA 2008, since November 14 2018 ** Show less

    • Ray White Commercial

      Nov 2018 - Oct 2019
Licensee Salesperson - Commercial Sales & Leasing (Idependent Contractor - Commission Only)

Ray White Commercial-Raine Blackadder Ltd MREINZ Specialises in Commercial & Industrial Property Sales and Leasing. Based in the Christchurch, Ray White Commercial Christchurch focuses on Canterbury and the South Island.Role: Licensee Salesperson - Commercial Sales & Leasing | Ray White Commercial Christchurch - Raine Blackadder Limited, Licensed (REAA 2008) Although I failed to satisfy my objective earning of earning a sustainable income in the commission only role, after a year and a half of work & training, I'd say I gained some invaluable experience working in the Commercial Property Industry learning from industry vetrans of the highest calibre. Carrying out my duties as a Salesperson involved researching leads for listings, and agency paperwork to list Commercial Property. Some transferable skills may include appraisal work for Commercial Real Estate and completing paperwork to a professional standard to comply with industry legislation. As a Salesperson, there is no salary. So I had to be diligent and financially disciplined to survive on a subsistence income for an extended period of time. I cut out non-essential costs, luxuries were few and far between, and I had no social life outside of my three part-time jobs so that I would not incur any debt. I met my essential costs by renting my two spare rooms to boarders to pay the mortgage, and working nights and weekends to cover my basic expenses such as CBD parking, food etc. www.rwcchristchurch.co.nz Show less

    • Research First

      Feb 2019 - Oct 2022
Insights Acquisition Specialist: Cold Calling and Information Gathering for Market Research.

Immersed in pioneering and impactful initiatives, at the forefront of innovation, Research First epitomizes a forward-thinking insights agency! Attracted by their visionary approach, I actively sought opportunities after attending an unrelated Research First hosted event. Fueled by the inspiration gleaned, I was motivated by this experience to venture into a role that involved cold calling and interviews for market research surveys, which was initially unfamiliar territory for me. Through seizing a walk-in opportunity where I made a good first impression to get the job after chatting with the Operations Manager Jenn Mckubre, I subsequently not only navigated the challenges of this new role but also cultivated a diverse skill set. What began as a means for secondary income during a commission-only independent contractor sales position blossomed into a transformative journey. Amidst the uncertainties introduced by COVID-19, this role evolved into a vital stopgap, fostering adaptability and resilience.I had the opportunity to work alongside Captains of the Insights Industry, who were both its innovators and its bastions, including the likes of Carl Davidson and Ann Thompson, who were both members of the company directorship. Although I had limited interaction with Carl and Ann in my day-to-day role, I had the opportunity to personally chat and draw inspiration from them at company events and informal conversations at the office about my thoughts and goals. To me, these individuals not only pushed the boundaries of knowledge but became enduring symbols of excellence in their respective fields. Also credit to Dan Bell who was overqualified to be my Team Leader and escaped to become a notable local sports reporter and commentator. Through my experience, I acquired valuable skills and insights, positioning myself as an adaptable professional. This journey propelled me toward multifaceted self-employed independence, where I now navigate diverse ventures. Show less

    • Career Break

      Oct 2019 - Oct 2022
COVID Era: Adaptable professional transitioning to multifaceted self-employed independence.

Despite maintaining continuous employment during this period, I largely put my plans on hold. My experience collecting data at Research First initially seemed monotonous. However, this monotony became a catalyst for me to seek out additional earning opportunities and develop new skills outside of my routine. What started as a seemingly repetitive task transformed into a motivating force, propelling me to explore roles like Uber Eats driving and engage in the gig economy. In this transformative journey, I had the privilege of working with a great bunch of people, both within my department and across various others. Their camaraderie and support added an enriching layer to my experience. My time at Research First initiated a metamorphosis. Rather than focusing on the grueling aspect, I embraced the unpredictability as a unique challenge that fueled my growth. This dynamic experience encouraged me to delve into Uber Eats driving, freelance opportunities, and other gig economy income streams, creating a vibrant journey of skill acquisition.Beyond the financial relief, this journey sparked an interest in long-term financial success. Inspired by my gig economy activities, I enthusiastically delved into savings and investing, viewing them as exciting avenues for building capital to eventually start a more significant business. Each role, from deliveries to investments, contributed to a reservoir of knowledge and personal growth. The continuous refinement and expansion of my abilities, sparked by the initial challenge, have created a cascade of positive development. This journey, rooted in necessity, has become a testament to turning challenges into multifaceted opportunities for growth, skill enhancement, and financial resilience. Show less

    • Telley Limited

      Oct 2022 - Mar 2024
Self Employed (Sole Trader) - Entrepreneur

Currently, the company exists more as an aspiration, with my role being that of a sole trader. Despite not actively utilizing the business, a significant portion of my income comes from being a self-employed driver. While my current activities may not align perfectly with my future goals, they are providing me with valuable skills such as self-reliance, saving, investing, self-management, cash flow management, expense control, and meticulous record-keeping to fulfill tax obligations as a self-employed sole trader in a small business. In the spirit of Aesop's fable of the Tortoise and the Hare, I embrace the philosophy that "slow and steady ultimately wins the race." This principle is often overlooked in the intricacies of establishing or acquiring a business. I envision transitioning out of the gig economy when the opportune moment aligns with my goals, staying mindful of the importance of a gradual and well-thought-out approach. Show less
