    • McDonald's

      May 1987 - Mar 1993
      Swing Manager/Guest Relations Professional

Whether it was freshly made scrambled eggs or sizzling burgers, crispy fries or crunchy salads, I created the food that America loves (admit it, you do). An expert chef, people manager, super fast change counter (no calculator!) and excellent customer relations skills. Promoted to crew trainer and swing manager and also named "Employee of the Month."

    • Bowling Green State University

      Aug 1988 - Dec 1992
      Office Manager

Advancing from a general food service employee, I took on the exciting challenge of serving as the office manager for the largest dining hall on campus. The role was varied, but included facilty management, inventory, payroll and a variety of administrative services. Was also heavily involved in the creation and execution of several themed events including the award-winning "Star Trek Dinner" featuring costumed characters and food like "Captain Kirk's Iowa Corn on the Cob."

    • Cedar Point Amusement Park

      May 1989 - May 1992
      Guest Relations Professional

While a college student, the warmer months were spent on the sunny coast of Lake Erie serving the millions of guests at Cedar Point, "America's Rockin' Roller Coast"! I served in many roles including general food service, a barkeeper at the Red Garter Saloon, a bartender at the former Marina Steakhouse and a server at the fBreakwater Cafe. I learned the value of hard work, keeping things clean and putting the customer first. Met annual goals repeatedly as a Campus Recruiter during this time, helping recruit other BGSU students to call Sandusky their home during summer breaks. Show less

    • American Fraternal Alliance

      Jan 1997 - Jul 2004

    • Join Hands Day, sponsored by America's Fraternal Benefit Societies

      Dec 1999 - Jul 2004
      Vice President

America's Fraternal Benefit Societies were looking for a new way to tell their story. How could a 100-year-old coalition of membership groups come together around a single project that would reintroduce them to their communities, appeal to younger volunteers while engaging existing members in a way that felt authentic and doable? The answer: Join Hands Day - the first and only national day of volunteering that brought together youth and adults for a day of service. The program, an independent 501c3 run from the offices of the American Fraternal Alliance, was seen as one of the most ambitious efforts in modern history to bring the fraternal benefit society story to the community. In my role, I immersed myself in the concept development, led the creation of all communications, marketing and branded materials, served as vice president of the not-for-profit corporation, and managed a staff team that executed with excellence on the first five years of the new group. Our results were impressive and I'm proud to see Join Hands Day activities continuing to happen today! Show less

    • American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI)

      Aug 2004 - Jan 2008
      Director, Membership & Marketing

ASHI was facing a membership decline. The society had embarked on a top notch re-branding effort, but the members weren't buying in completely. Costs had gone up, dues had increased and the perceived value of the society's new direction hadn't yet taken hold with the membership. With a "nothing is impossible" attitude, my team and I worked to rebuild the members' trust, found creative ways to bring back members who had left in protest and explored new avenues for non-dues revenue and a revitalizing of our associate membership program. At the time of my departure, the membership was back up to pre-branding levels and was nearing a record high. Show less

    • American Hardware Manufacturers Association

      Jan 2008 - Jun 2008
      Manager, Business Development

When a trade association needed a shot in the arm, I was just the guy to do it. We revitalized our international trade show - completely selling out our space, invigorated one of our technology conferences with increased vendor activities and began to grow membership after a significant period of decline. A move to Wisconsin made this a shorter-than-expected role, but the results were trending positively as I departed.

    • Thrivent Financial

      Jun 2008 - Feb 2016

Led an enterprise-wide activation team responsible for developing the future culture of the organization. A higher-performing, membership growth culture is one in which everyone feels ownership of the organization and my work helped employees to both see and live this vision. In my role, I led a group of nearly 70 "Change Agents" from across the enterprise who served as the eyes and ears of our project. I trained them on ways to use Workday, a world-class Human Capital Management System, and also coached them on ways to engage others in thinking more about the future. Show less As a leader within Thrivent's Long-Term Development Department, I was responsible for testing and trying new ideas to see if there were ways to enhance the membership experience or provide new sources of business success for the organization. I was someone helping uncover the future for this organization through a comprehensive development process. Not every test produced a successful idea, but there were learnings to everything that helped us grow our membership or do things more efficiently and effectively in the future. Show less
