  The Chief Officer is responsible for:Serving as an officer of the watch, assuming shift responsibility of the vessel and directs crewwhen the Master is not on the bridge;Safe operation of the vessel while on watch;Serving as the vessel’s Safety Officer;Directing the crews activities such as operating, maintaining, cleaning, painting marine craft and deck equipment (with the exception of engine room);Operating the vessel in accordance with the international rules and regulations;Planning the vessel passage;Navigating utilizing all available means of navigational aids on board such as GPS, AIS, chart plotter, charts, beacons, buoys, radar or echo sounder and being conversant with all on board navigation aids;Assisting the Master in operating a variety of equipment (main and auxiliary propulsion units, communications, navigational aids, etc.) from the bridge during operations or while sailing;Instructing and training the crew in proper seamanship practices, up to their various AJTS standards;Directing subordinate crew members in performing deck activities;Keeping accurate daily records and log books;Ensuring that the assigned vessel is adequately provisioned, and that quality and quantity of food carried meet established Saudi Aramco standards;Conducting regular emergency drills and safety meetings;Ensuring that all crew members are fully conversant with all firefighting and lifesaving techniques;Updating and posting the Muster Lists approved by the Master which contains station to report to and duties to take by crew members in the event of an emergency;Be fully conversant with, and understanding the pollution control capabilities of the vessel;Familiarizing himself with the Safety Management System and ISM procedures relevant to his function.
