      • I was involved in a project entitled “Development of Smart Home Energy Management System”. In this project, a smart home prototype integrated with renewable energy source, energy storage system and dynamic electricity prices was developed in laboratory. My main contribution is to propose different optimal scheduling strategies by considering different assumption of smart home conditions, aiming to minimize the total electricity cost of smart home without compromising the comfort level of customer.• I served as a committee member of Intelligent Electric Vehicle Promotion Centre with 14 faculty members to contribute actively on designing various intelligent charging management schemes for electric vehicle parking station in order to prevent negative impacts brought by the simultaneous and uncoordinated charging of large EV fleets on the stability and reliability of power system. • I assisted the Director of Laboratory in planning and designing research experiments, establishing priorities and recommending schedules for the postgraduate students in my team to ensure the success of their projects. I was entrusted to monitor and guide the research progress of two PhD students and six Master students until the completion of their projects. • I led my research team to promote the knowledge of latest technologies in green energy research to visiting scholars and potential oversea collaborators through technical presentations. • I am responsible to teach at least two undergraduate courses per semester that are either lecture-based or laboratory based. The teaching and learning process not only involves the knowledge dissemination in classroom, but also the planning of lessons and assessments of these courses.• I develop the course outlines for all courses taught by me and ensure the quality of these instructional plans meet the standards stipulated by faculty.• I assess the student’s progress by grading their assignment, lab report, practical assessment, midterm test and final examination. I am also responsible to prepare the course file and outcome based education (OBE) document after completing the grading to achieve the continual quality improvement of course.• I work with the departmental colleagues to develop or modify the curriculum of courses offered by the Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronic Engineering programmes.• I conduct research and experiments to advance knowledge in my research fields, particularly on the smart grid energy management optimisation and the application of swarm intelligence algorithms to solve various engineering applications. • I supervise postgraduate and undergraduate students that are working towards their master and bachelor degrees, respectively, to improve their knowledge and career skills.• I am appointed as the faculty advisor for IEEE-HKN Mu Alpha student chapter in UCSI University from July 2017 onwards. I monitor the budget all events organised by IEEE-HKN in UCSI University to ensure all activities expenses are not exceeding the proposed budget. Show less

Here, two evolution phases were introduced to enable the algorithm to perform searching process using multiple search operators. In order to prevent rapid diversity loss of population and premature convergence of the algorithm, both multi-swarm technique and mutation scheme were incorporated into the IC-PSOWV. Extensive performance evaluations were conducted and it was validated that this novel algorithm is able to solve real-world engineering problems effectively. With these findings, Koon Meng stood out in the crowd of competitors. The Tan Sri Ir Yusoff Ibrahim Best FYP is an award given to excellent engineering projects produced by undergraduates throughout the nation. The selection process is highly competitive as this competition is open to all universities in Malaysia. All the submitted reports were evaluated by two independent reviewers in Round 1 and ten short-listed finalists were invited to the Round 2 presentation. The panel of judges involved in evaluating the Round 2 presentation were Ts Ir Dr Wang Hong Kok, Ir Dr Amran Ayob, Associate Professor Ts Dr Lai Weng Kin and Indiran Nadarajan. Show less
