      Jan 2020 - Jan 2024
      Board Member/ Founding Member

STRF is as unique of an organization as the group of people who formed it. Originally complete strangers, the six founding members were tied together by one common thread – their friendship with a man with an idea. After a few lunches “without an agenda”, as he called them, the group addressed the pressing issue of recovery. They agreed that there is a population that has been underserved in the fight against addiction for far too long. Through their own personal experiences, they all believe in the success of long term recovery. This belief, along with their refusal to accept a stagnant atmosphere in the world of recovery, planted a desire to create a place for those unable to receive traditional substance abuse treatment. They acknowledged the lack of resources available for them to get healthy and turn their lives around through treatment. To quote a line from the big book of Alcoholics Anonymous, “The unselfishness of these men as we have come to know them, the entire absence of profit motive, and their community spirit, …. They believe in themselves, and still more in the Power which pulls chronic alcoholics back from the gates of death”. This is a perfect and accurate description of this founding group. Out of the dreams and passion of these six individuals, South Texas Recovery Foundation was born. STRF will provide peer lead, 12-step residential recovery centers, where individuals can stay for 60 days. Upon completion, these individuals will have additional resources available to them for up to one year, including after care, recovery coaching, case management and much more. Our program will also include Equine-assisted healing, family programs, sustained gardening, job placement assistance, and life coaching. STRF will not only help the individual heal, but the families and communities connected to them as well. Our mission is to serve the underserved in South Texas, providing everyone the opportunity to attain a life free from addiction Show less
