      Jan 2017 - Jun 2017

Though my time in ST Digital was short, I was exposed to modern strategies in the newsroom that gave me a new perspective on journalism. Instead of writing a story that would be published tomorrow, I worked on breaking news articles that were published as soon as possible. For example, I covered a train breakdown, and information in that story was most helpful at the time of the breakdown, and would have lost its usefulness by the next day. I also edited and produced video content on news of the day, from otter sightings to the opening of Don Don Donki in Singapore. These videos were posted on Facebook and Twitter along with captions that I wrote. Show less I was thrown into the deep end and had to learn to swim at the News desk in The Straits Times. Within my first week, I had been sent to cover the release of the IB results and the acquisition of Raffles Country Club. I was later given the opportunity to write features - from whether cats should be allowed in HDB flats to a songwriting program for Girls' Home residents.I also had a focus on health stories for The Straits Times' Mind and Body pages, writing about liver transplants and Meatless Monday initiatives. The journalistic highlights of my internship were winning Story of the Month in May 2017 and being recognised for Excellence in Impact in June 2017. Intern reporter

I was selected to participate in Bloomberg's highly competitive summer internship program where I learned how to cover transport, politics and the economy from experienced reporters. I wrote more than 20 stories, including one that was the most read of the week on Bloomberg Asia’s Facebook page.I also had a stint with the Daybreak team in Singapore, making use of my attention to detail to edit and fact check copy before it was sent out. I collaborated with colleagues to produce a podcast on the Chinese yuan and a video on what kind of diversity millennials want. I received excellent training on reporting as well as using the Bloomberg Terminal during my internship. Show less

    • CNBC

      Oct 2018 - Dec 2022

As a Middle East writer since 2020, I work closely with my colleagues in the United Arab Emirates and London to write stories about the region, such as on oil/OPEC, politics and the Middle East's speedy vaccination program.I have also written about vaccine diplomacy by China, Singapore's Covid rules and North Korea's missile launches. Since I live in Asia, I have a broad understanding of countries in this region and am always learning more. I started to create charts to help explain big news stories in 2020, including the Russia-Saudi Arabia oil price war. From October 2018 to December 2019, I focused on writing captions and headlines for clips from CNBC's on-air programs. I was given a lot of independence in this role and published an average of 18 or so clips without much supervision. In my free time, I pursued stories on technology and finance. Show less
