The outcome of this analysis was that donor splice site prediction was possible in splice variants 1 and 2, but not in absence of any experimental data due to current limitations in prediction algorithms: factors are calculated independently, and unknown influences are not accounted for. Prediction algorithms in the future would benefit from combining multiple factors into one, and development of tools that can take pre-mRNA 3D structures into account. Bioinformatics has the potential to develop further and become an even more useful resource and help further our understanding of the splicing process. Show less
