The Networks Business Unit is, according to the recent review of Cypriot legislation, the owner of the Transmission Network and Owner/Operator of the Distribution Network.Moreover, the Networks Business Unit is the Distribution System Operator (DSO) responsible for the operation of the Distribution System. The Transmission and Distribution Management, the four (4) EAC Area Offices as well as the Electronics and Communications, Civil and Building Works and the GIS Network Data System sections all belong to the NBU.Transmission Management is one of the two Managements which belong to the Network Business Unit. Transmission Management deals with the studies, planning, technology, construction, operation and maintenance of the Transmission Network, in order to cover the demand of electric energy and the reliability of the Transmission System. The transmission network is the backbone of the EAC's system, connecting the power stations to the load centers.According to the Transmission and Distribution Rules, the Transmission of electricity starts from the scales of the Transmission Substations which operate within the Power Stations.   The National Energy Control Centre of Cyprus (N.E.C.C.) is manned on a 24hr basis monitoring the operation of the Generation and the Transmission Network. The responsibilities of the N.E.C.C. include:-To facilitate the monitoring of the status of each Power Station and Transmission Substation and execute all necessary operations to ensure the safe, reliable and most economical supply to all consumers-To ensure that all necessary measures are taken so that the supply of Electrical Energy, the frequency level and voltages throughout the system are continuously kept within the limits set by the relevant rules and regulations.-To co-ordinate operations, allow modifications and repairs to the Transmission network securely and as quickly as possible in full compliance with the appropriate processes, as these are defined by the relevant rules and regulations;-To co-ordinate all required actions for immediate restoration of supply after unplanned events, faults or system disturbances.-To forecast the demand for the next hour, the remaining of the day and the following day.-To take all necessary actions, for the preparation of a production programme, on time, giving due consideration to the forecasted demand, in order to satisfy the demand at all times.-To take all necessary actions to achieve operation of all network equipment at minimum cost.The Cyprus TSO became a full ETSO member - the predecessor of ENTSO-E- on 5 October 2005. On 1 July 2009, ETSO was succeeded by ENTSO-E (European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity). ETSO’s activities are now covered by European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E).
