      PPG is the largest paint manufacturing company the world; the sites in South-East Asia manufacture Perfor- mance Coatings for the automotive industry, as well as Protective Marine Coatings. As the Country Manager of Environment, Health and Safety, I was responsible for two factories located in Petaling Jaya and Shah Alam, as well as a corporate office located in Petaling Jaya. I also held an additional regional responsibility as the South East Asia (SEA) Commercial Coordinator, responsible for the Safety Awareness program carried out at all corporate offices in SEA, which included Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines.I also sat on both the Cross-Leadership Team (CLT) which spanned 3 business units, as well as the Malaysian Leadership Team (MLT). As a member of the Plant Leadership Team (PLT), I headed the Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) and Security function and reported directly to the Operations Director, and functionally to the Asia Pacific Regional EHS Director.• Achievements during start-up include:o Created a safe work culture:o Onboarding program for all levels of new hires.o Daily Leadership Gemba of the Operations facilities. o Focus on Leading Indicators (as opposed to Lagging indicators).• Achievements during the Construction phase include:o Managed a team of 15 EHS professionals on-site.o Achieved more than one million man-hours of zero lost-time.o Daily assessments of the work area against Permit-to-Work and Work Method Statement policies.o Safety training for 100% of construction employees.       Wanek Furniture is the largest furniture manufacturer in Vietnam, and is part of Ashley Furniture Industries, the largest furniture manufacturer and retailer in North America.Ashley’s footprint in Asia comprises of Wanek Furniture, Ashton Furniture and Millennium Furniture, and are spread out over two major locations: Binh Duong (located just outside of Ho Chi Minh City); and Quang Ngai (located two hours south of Da Nang). I also managed the EHS function for the Ashley factory in Kunshan, China until 2019.• Achievements include:o 100% regulatory compliance in the area of safety, health, the environment and fire protection.o In charge of construction safety during the building of two (2) warehouses, and one (1) multi-building factory covering more than 200 acres of land in total.o Built a safe work culture; Achievements: 30% Incident Rate improvement in 1st year; 20% improvement in 2nd year, and; 12% improvement in 3rd year. This entailed:o Focusing the departmental KPIs on Leading Indicators such as Near Miss reporting, Behavioral-Based Safety audits and Training.o Enhancing the EHS organisation through diversification of functions such as Environmental Management, Fire Safety, Technical Support and Construction safety.o Key initiatives for Machine Guarding and Risk Assessments, Safety Competency Training, Lock-Out Tag-Out, Safety Maps, Chemical Safety, Forklift and Pedestrian Safety and Electrical Safety.o Automated Near Miss and Unsafe Condition reporting: Cut down reporting time by 72%; Improved engagement by 800%.o Automated machinery Risk Assessments: Schedule adherence improved from 38% to 95%.o Automated waste collection activities: reduced incidences of fraud and saved +/- USD250,000 in the first year; >USD2 million in total.o ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) activities included installation and operation of wastewater treatment plants and solar panel implementation for clean and renewable energy: First year savings of >USD1 million.
