      Macquarie Capital had 1200 staff across Europe, with 800 of those in London and the remaining 400 spread through the other 11 offices across Europe. The business is split into two main divisions – Advisory which concentrates on M&A, Third Party Advisory and Principle investments, and the Funds business which raises monies from institutional investors and then acquires and manages assets in the Infrastructure and associated sectors. During my time at Macquarie the Global Financial Crisis shook the world and the economic landscape changed dramatically. Despite the extent and pace of the change my primary task was to provide best practice recruitment and HR Leadership given the current circumstances at any time and ensure identification and maximisation of opportunities presented as a result of the change happening globally.My ability to maintain the quality and validity of the service I was delivering was made possible by my adoption of change management techniques and the creation and implementation of a robust and flexible business strategy. The Wellington branch had suffered more than most in the Global Financial Crisis – both in terms of staff turnover and client demand attrition. My focus was to take a branch that was in crisis and losing money month on month, to a successful and consistently profitable branch through a business transformation processes that encompassed strategy, people and capability, marketing and client mix, fiscal management, branding and culture.Outcome: At the time of my maternity leave (September 2012) the Wellington branch had enjoyed 16 consecutive months profitability, and were at 163% of budget for the first half of the year.
