    • Bacon Bagel Games

      Oct 2020 - Apr 2021
QA, Art Team Lead & Composer

For my final year project in TU Dublin's BA in Games Design course, I spent 7 months working as Art Lead and Composer for Bacon Bagel Games on our PC game, 'Deity's Form', an isometric rogue-lite RPG that answers the question "What if you played as the dungeon boss breaking free?"My key responsibilities as Art Lead were as follows:- Establishing Visual Identity: Using brushes by Kyle T. Webster, I decided upon a rough, unrefined style with vibrant colours to emulate Egyptian hieroglyphics, to support the game's setting. Then, I created character designs for the player character, enemies and bosses, producing some of the sprites for these within Photoshop making use of non-destructive practices for ease of animation. In addition to this, I also created some environmental elements to suit the dungeon setting and worldbuilding. - UI: I was responsible for the creation of the game's UI using assets produced in Illustrator, game over/victory screens, a custom font and social media assets. All work was shared with fellow Art team member Emma Neeson in all areas. My key responsibilities as Composer were as follows:Composition & Music Identity: I used MuseScore to compose the OST, chosen due to its range of soundfonts. Traditional Egyptian instrumentation and the Phrygian mode were used to aid the project's identity with Western influences for enemy-oriented tracks to establish a musical dichotomy.- Mastering: Once tracks were composed, I mastered them within Audacity. This was to ensure that the audio levels were consistent, and that each track conveyed a punchy urgency. As with composition, this was an iterative process aided by strong team communication.- SFX Production: During this project, I assisted our Audio Lead Shane Moloney on the production of SFX. Foley methods were used to give the game's audio a grounded feel, and Audacity was again used for the addition of reverb and getting satisfying low end to sell the power of the player character. • NetEase Games

      Jun 2023 - Feb 2024
      Associate Quality Assurance Analyst

Working as an Associate Quality Assurance tester at NetEase Games, I was responsible for ensuring that the projects I worked on were of the highest quality possible through rigorous and continued testing of various game elements. In addition, I utilised my prior experience with game design to provide clear and player-focused feedback on the state of the project to improve the overall experience. My key tasks in this position were as follows:- Testing: In this position, I utilised a number of testing methods with a keen eye for detail to ensure that all bugs present on both a narrow and wider scale were promptly discovered and their potential impact on the user experience correctly gauged. I also made use of my existing game development knowledge to work through issues that had been seen but lacked reliable steps to reproduce them, and I am proud to say I correctly identified the problem in many cases allowing the underlying issue to be actioned on promptly.- Communication: Throughout a given day in this position, I constantly communicated with others on both an in-person and remote basis through both verbal and written form. Clear and concise communication is vital in any position within a game studio, with QA being no exception. My ability to efficiently communicate issues found to developers and facilitate communication in different areas of the project was vital to this position, and NetEase Games is an environment where my skills in these areas flourished.
