      Tailor

I currently have a small personal workshop equipped with a machine for general sewing, a four thread overlock, and an embroidery machine. I do tailor my own patterns, but I have not yet learned to utilize software to do so. I have learned to work with many fabric types including but not limited to:Furs, short and longPVC and other faux leathersLeatherSatinSilkStretch VelvetPower meshLycra/SpandexOrganzaTulle and nettingFeathersetc.I also create accessories such as: facinators, lace mini hats, motorized fairy wings, masks, simple jewelry, hair pieces, specialized backpacks/purses, belts, etc. I feel that often the costume is made truly impressive by the details.I have a good deal of experience with repairing uniforms/costumes. I served the sailors on the USS Oklahoma City and the USS Jacksonville while I was living in Norfolk, Virginia, and I have volunteered my services to the local high school for chorus, color guard, and JROTC uniforms/costumes.I am not a seamstress/tailor by profession, but by choice. I enjoy creating costumes that get the "The World Just Stopped to Admire" reaction. I also enjoy knowing that I've given someone the piece of mind to go about their every day job with confidence that they will not suffer a wardrobe malfunction after I've made repairs to their uniform/costume. • Sears Stores

      Nov 1996 - Feb 1997
      Sales Associate

I was a sales associate with Sears for just less than a year. It was my responsibility to open registers, stock the floor, clean up the displays and fitting rooms, and run the register in the Women's Intimates Department. I had to learn how to do proper fittings for bras and underwear, learn how to arrange stock according to the company color wheel, greet customers without saying “How can I help you?” within 3 seconds of them entering my floor, and recognize shoplifters. It was a lot to learn for the title “Sale Associate”. There was rarely a dull moment with our customers; everyone from cross-dressers needing advice and fittings to elderly women enraged that her favorite bra had been discontinued! Show less

    • Djb Imports Inc

      Nov 2002 - May 2003
      Laser Tech

I was hired on at DJB in the fall of 2002 as a “laser technician”. This means I was expected to spend hours in a tiny room without sufficient ventilation or climate control using two large Nd:YAG lasers to engrave execute gifts. I also learned how to digitize graphics for use with American Laserware’s “ProLase” software. I developed a new method of burning some of the pens with a more delicate finish that was then adopted by the company. Over the course of my employment I also developed a method by which the company could create their own engraving trays for whatever item they might want to engrave. When the lasers went down, I dove in and began studying. I searched the internet, read through the laser manuals, poured over the circuit board diagrams, and called the creators of the engraving software. I was able to isolate the problem and develop a work around. My abilities were tried and tested repeatedly during my employment with DJB Imports. I was required to step up and into a supervisory position during a particularly stressful week and hold the department together. I picked up workers’ shifts after an auto accident put two out of work. Soon after, laser one went down; then laser two. I found the problem and implemented a temporary fix to finish our orders on time. That week I worked 66 hours and the General Manager joked that if I was going to continue to be so useful they would have to put me on salary to be able to afford me. Show less

    • PoundTeam Incorporated

      May 2007 - now
      Computer Tech

I work most often with GNU software. The major product at PoundTeam is the Vicibox dialer. We build, configure, collocate, troubleshoot and customize these dialers for clients all over the world. There is always wikiwork; documenting what you've learned for the rest of the team. In the company wiki I have constructed simple step by step directions and how-tos directed at new hires and team members with absolutely no knowledge on the topic. We also work with a ticketing system known as “Redmine" to post updates on projects being worked on so that everyone has a clear picture of what has been discovered or where the project stands currently. Aside from all of this there is still the physical work with the hardware in the collocation facility itself. Each server has to be physically configured based on what resources for which the client has paid; there are often variations of hard disk size, amount of memory, and RAID level. After the servers are physically configured, they must have the OS installed and their network resources allocated. The particular facility in which I work has several fiber connections each with it’s own group of IP addresses to sift through and choose from based on who the client is, where the server is located in the facility, and how much bandwidth the client has stated they will likely need. Networking in the collocation facility is all hard coded into the servers. The physical networking connections are also one of my responsibilities; both in the collocation facility and inside the office. In the office we run Windows 10, Windows 8, and a Macintosh. We also regularly install and run a workstation using the latest version of Ubuntu Desktop. Emergency management in the collocation facility is also part of my job description; I've handled everything from extensive power and ISP outages to flooding and small fires while keeping calm and directing others effectively.
