      Advanced Aeronautical Engineer Apprenticeship

This City & Guilds apprenticeship consisted of units covering subjects including; Airframe Fitting, Aircraft Engine Overhaul and Aircraft Mechanical Component Overhaul. Through hard work, dedication and taking on extra work, I completed this four year apprenticeship course in two years, eight months. The early completion of my course allowed me to gain greater understanding of Aeronautical Engineer and a broader range of skills to apply myself in these engineering fields.

NDT In 2010 I started building a log book of the hours and experience I obtained in three of the NDT disciplines. I have accumulated 45 hours in Magnetic Particle inspection, 104 hours in Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection and 108 hours in Radiography. I completed a basic radiation safety course that allowed me to regularly work on and off site Radiography, which included comfortably working within small and confined spaces. I can also process, develop and interpret the films post Radiography. My Radiography log book has been built up by working unsociable hours, including weekends, bank holidays and numerous all night shifts. Through this and other NDT activities I have completed, I have gained comprehensive knowledge of NDT, while understanding the importance of communication and team work to fulfill goals.Safety Equipment Alongside my NDT obligations, I regularly worked within the Safety Equipment workshop where my day to day duties involved overhauling, testing and repairing most aspects of survival equipment. I had the responsibility to evaluate and fulfil the necessary work to restore the component back to serviceability.Furthermore I made significant improvements to the functionality of the workshop through developing or changing existing workshop routines. This consisted of tailoring customer spreadsheets, presenting information in a more professional manner. I also incorporated an improved filing system to increase the efficacy and dynamics for the staff within the workshop. Show less

      Mechanical Inspector

I joined Gardner Aerospace in early 2014 as a Mechanical inspector where my role focuses on ensuring Gardner’s quality and efficient standards are maintained. My responsibilities include carrying out first off inspections before batch production commences, conducting final inspections of components, compiling a variety of first article inspection reports (FAIRs), and implementing a number of visual inspection and compiling reject reports. Naturally within this role I read and interpret detail and assembly drawings to ensure everything is made to the correct orientation and within the tolerance guidelines. Most of my duties require the use of hand equipment such as verniers, callipers, height gauges and micrometers. Although it is not currently required, I am keen to gain experience using a CMM. Quality Engineer

My duties as a quality engineer include dealing with internal rejects and creating new standard operating procedures to prevent the incidents reoccurring. Alongside this, I also create build documents for new and existing projects to keep the company’s procedures up to date. I liaise with our customers and suppliers with regards to non-conformities and rejects. I carry out first off, in process and final inspection, ensuring that high standards are maintained. This role has given me the opportunity to develop my knowledge of both automatic and manual CMMs. Furthermore, I create first article inspection reports (FAIRs) and over-check the other inspectors FAIRs before they are released with the components to the customer.
