My Ph. D. subject was the isolation of bioactive secondary metabolites from endophytic fungi. The endophytic fungus Alternaria phragmospora (the most potent antimalarial) was subjected to different chromatographic techniques resulting in the isolation of five new (2, 4, 6, 7, 9) and four known (1, 3, 5, 8) isocoumarin derivatives as well as four new (12-15) and two known (16, 17) α-pyrone derivatives. Nigrosphaerin A, a new isochromene derivative (18) was isolated from the endophytic fungus Nigrospora sphaerica in addition to nineteen known compounds (19-37). The isolated compounds were chemically identified using 1D NMR (1H, 13C, DEPT135) and 2D NMR (COSY, HMQC, HMBC), HR-ESI-MS as well as X-ray for some crystalline compounds. Compounds 1 and 10 showed potent antimalarial activities against Plasmodium falciparum D6 clone with IC50 values of 0.3 and 0.8 μM, respectively, and W2 clone with IC50 values of 0.2 and 0.8 μM, respectively. Visiting Scholar

My work focused on the isolation and characterization of active secondary metabolites from endophytic fungi, and plants with significant activity against Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), E-Coli, some fungi, malaria, and leishmania. I had handled some traditional and sophisticated isolation techniques as well as analytical instruments such as Biotage, Chromatotron, SPE, GC/MS, HPLC, HPTLC, NMR, LC/MS, ECD, UV, and IR.

    • Nahda University - NUB

      Sept 2014 - Aug 2015
      Lecturer
    • Al-Azhar University

      Sept 2014 - now

I was the head of training committee in the faculty. I was teaching a vital course for postgraduates and scientific researchers about using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) to identify the chemical structure of the isolated secondary metabolites as well as the synthesized compounds. I was teaching several courses for undergraduate students including Tissue culture, Phytochemistry, Pharmacognosy, Botany in addition to advanced chromatographic and analytical techniques (HPLC, HPTLC, GC, UPLC, and LC-Ms) as well as advanced spectrometric techniques (Ms, IR, UV, and NMR).
