Layout optimization of pallet yards for increased storage• Analysed the pallet area and the underutilized space in the pallet area and developed an optimized plan which increases the pallet storing capacity by 20%, 14%, and 44% in the major 3 plants in Saint Gobain Glass India Pvt Ltd Limited, Chennai - Sekurit Division• By optimization the underutilized storage has been used properly.•Analysed the existing movements and measured the dimensions of the smallest and largest possible pallets and came up with a plan developed using AutoCAD with pallet placing pads that could accommodate all the most widely used racks.•Hands on experience on reduction of NVAs using Lean techniques and developed solution to minimise NVAs like Idletime, cycle time, and empty movements possessed by forklifts. •Without an extension of space, the traveling distance of the forklift has been reduced by the proposal of a new road that connects assembly and line in a more efficient way.•Reduced the CO2 emission to 44% from forklift batteries. •By the creation of an optimized layout plan, the flow of operations became more streamlined and the movement of the forklift became very smooth.
