      Appointed by Governor Dennis Daugaard and confirmed by the Legislature as one of nine regents overseeing the governance of South Dakota’s six public universities and two special schools, with a strategic vision that emphasized student success, academic quality, research and economic development, and affordability. Oversaw university administration policies that affected more than 36,000 students and required a fiscal year 2015 budget of more than $800 million. Testified before the Appropriations Committee and worked with members of the Legislature on education initiatives, including a successful fiscal year 2015 tuition freeze. Interviewed university presidential applicants and assessed presidential performance through annual performance reviews. Served as a representative on campus building committees to select architects and construction managers at risk, including a $4.5 million Plant Science Research Facility and a $1.3 million Student Wellness Center expansion at South Dakota State University. Lead the company in the Commander’s absence. Led a Signals Intelligence/Electronic Warfare platoon of 20 Marines. Deployed overseas in support of counterterrorism and Great Power Competition missions, responsible for platoon performance and $3.8 million of sensitive government equipment. Developed briefing, presentation, and analytical skills as a signals intelligence Platoon Commander. Translated complex technical capabilities and analysis into compelling intelligence narratives. Wrote training policies, updated training compliance management, and achieved 100% completion of more than 20 training categories for over 600 Marines as the Battalion Training Officer. Received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for leadership, initiative, and audit inspection results. In March 2021, reported to The Basic School, a 6-month program that trains and develops new Marine Corps officers into rifle platoon commanders. Graduated in the top 5 percent of the class and received meritorious Career Designation as a result. Graduated from Tactical Intelligence Officer Course (TIOC) in December 2021 and Signals Intelligence Officer Course (SIOC) in February 2022, becoming a Signals Intelligence and Electronic Warfare Officer.
