Senior Member of the Technical Staff - Equipment Engineering at Globalfoundries

  • Education

    • Berkshire Community College

      2005 - 2008
Associate of Arts (A.A.) Liberal Arts and Sciences, General Studies and Humanities 3.7

Activities and Societies: Awarded Dean's List, Richard Ziter Award, BCC Humanities Scholarship

    • University of Vermont

      2009 - 2013
Bachelor's degree Electrical and Electronics Engineering

Activities and Societies: Awarded Dean's List, Smart Grant. Focus on semiconductor technology. Taken classes in: linear circuit design/analysis, electronics, VLSI, wireless communications, digital design, semiconductor physics, microprocessor programming, Solidworks, Matlab, C, Pspice, etc. While going to school full time for my degree, I managed to work almost 30 hours a week.

  • Experience

    • Andrew Willey Marble and Stone

      May 2007 - Aug 2009
      Stone Fabricator/Installer

Used hand power tools to fabricate large granite and marble slabs into a finished counter tops or other stone work. Used air powered tools to polish stone by hand. Made counter top templates for new jobs, and made templates for sink cutouts. Aided in installation of stone counter tops.

    • IBM

      May 2012 - Aug 2012
      Functional Characterization Intern

Defect Monitor Vehicle (DMV) functional characterization for 90nm and 130nm semiconductor technologies. Used SAS, Perl, and HTML to create automated DMV data acquisition program and custom Failure Analysis search website. Responsible for diagnosing problems and finding the problematic tools based on test data pulled from DMIW database. Aided in scrapping low-yielding wafers, sending samples to Failure Analysis, and analyzing results to find problem.

    • IBM

      Jun 2013 - Jul 2015
      Equipment Engineer

Manage scrap reduction projects (Engineering Changes) with a team of Process Engineers and Equipment and Process Technicians, management of new tools (from getting a quote to installation and qualification at our fab). Designing and building sensor control systems to inhibit machines before component fails. Sourcing obsolete parts and managing their timely replacement. Monitoring tool health through the use of statistical process control charts, analyzing collected data, and communication between the engineering and maintenance teams. Show less

2016 problem solving symposium winner: standardize and train award GlobalFoundries Oct 2016 Award for outstanding training and procedural standardization during a first of a kind tool upgrade, which was absolutely riddled with issues we have never seen before!
    • Awarded to Ian Mattoon
IBM Outstanding Technical Achievement Award 2014 IBM Jun 2014 This award was given to me for work done in the field of Predictive/Preventative Maintenance and Tool Condition Monitoring. I am responsible for many older tools with obsolete parts, so I began working with my team to develop various sensor systems and diagnostic systems to help safe-proof our tools. Our goal was to create monitored signals to predict when an important component was going to fail and implement product safety sensor systems to catch tool problems before product could be affected.
