An internal medicine doctor working in the CDU (Clinical Decision Unit) within an academic emergency medicine residency program uniquely provides patient care. The unit is designed to monitor patients who require observation beyond the initial emergency room treatment but may not need full inpatient admission. This environment offers a blend of clinical experience and educational opportunities. I work closely with emergency medicine residents, guiding workup and disposition. As in other units, we work closely with specialists and coordinate care with inpatient teams. My job also provides teaching to nurse practitioners and physician assistants. In addition, I set up outpatient follow-up care, oversee patient discharge, and offer support and education. Show less
