      I was fortunate enough to partake in work experience with a microbiologist lab in the University of Sheffield. Over the course of my time there, I researched into the disease 'WASP' that affects young boys due to the lack of the protein 'actin' in their cells, preventing the functioning process of exocytosis. I worked with specialist lab equipment such as micropippets, centrifuges and other cell culturing equipment to give me an insight into lab protocol and help me achieve genuine results from my time working there.       By researching gut diseases such as Diabetic Gastroparesis and Achalasia, not only did I expand my knowledge of scientific research programmes into diseases, I also better understood the sphere of possibilities of a Biomedical degree. This lab work gave me an insight into the practical applications of science as well as theoretical. I came out of this experience with better understanding of the process in which scientific researchers must undergo in order to receive grants to continue with projects and lab work. Show less
