We examine other forms of cultural expression-- literature, painting, music, architecture--as they impact on film and television, and we examine the role of cultural industries and institutions in relation to film.Although Film and Media is principally an Arts (rather than a Fine Arts) department, film, video, and multimedia production are central to our curriculum. They are fundamental means to the achievement of our principal pedagogical goals: cultural awareness and literacy in language, image, sound, and film and video technology. Show less

    • QUIXOTwEet

      Mar 2012 - now
      Writer, Performer, Artist

"QUIXOTwEet" is my "labour of love". It is a multi-faceted experimental/conceptual/endurance/performance art project which BEGINS with an attempt to Tweet (by hand!) the entire text of "Don Quixote". The project is--among many other things--an exploration/interrogation of Twitter as a medium; of the ways in which content creation and consumption are transforming; of the act of reading itself; of translation, transcription, transference, transmission, and transposition; and much, much more!QUIXOTwEet is still very much in the formative/conceptual phase of existence. While I continue to prepare and plan for it to "go live", I have been doing my best to support myself with freelance media work. Show less

The description of the program from the Banff Centre website:A groundbreaking residency that enables experimentation and creation in innovative writing practices. In(ter)ventions welcomes interventions in writing as an art form, where the medium itself (language) is the site of investigation. The means of production that might frame such interventions (such as audio, electronic literature, interactivity, vizpo, video, performance, collaboration, and so on) are secondary to and/or juxtaposed with the compositional. The In(ter)ventions program is designed for those projects that challenge received literary conventions and are driven by adventure and innovation in language rather than the means of production such as technology and hardware. Yet forms of production and dissemination involving technology will be considered and supported in the development of the project during the residency, where these are essential to the intervention.Accomplished mentors and guest speakers who lead the program are chosen for literary expertise and experience in new practices. In(ter)ventions provides the time, mentorship, and technical resources to take innovative creative work to fulfillment. If you are a writer already pushing the boundaries of literary practice, this program is for you.The residency includes: one-on-one sessions with individual mentor-leaders; group discussions; speaker presentations; and performances. Group discussions explore issues in new practices and may include philosophical and critical thinking, aesthetic issues, demonstrations, and technical issues. Show less
