      Project Developer

Part of a team developing a project on gambling addiction. The project also embraced the study of mathematical probability theories related with the majority of games in casinos and how those odds can be used to mislead gamblers. Contacts where made specialists in mathematics and psychology.

Joined a Professor in developing an automatic sleep stage classifier.Sleep is divided in several stages (NREM 1-2-3 and REM), each of them with different functions and displaying distinct identifiable features. The identification of these stages is essential when a neurological patient displays sleep disorders. Such work is done manually after the patient is recorded sleeping with an EEG, and can take up to 6 hours. Currently no automatic sleep stage classifier is known to be trusted by doctors, leaving a big technological gap between how this is performed and modern medicine. The work being developed required mostly skills in EEG and signal analysis (with MATLAB) Show less

      Feb 2016 - Nov 2016
      Research Intern

I joined the Laboratory of Cognitive Neuroscience (Blanke's Lab) from the Center of Neuroprosthetics of the EPFL as part of my master thesis project.Psychosis is a consequence of condition that distort both thinking and perception (such as schizophrenia) and can end up severely affecting the patient's life. The project aimed at assessing the spatiotemporal brain dynamics of a specific symptom of certain psychotic states, the feeling of a presence. As general objectives we wanted to understand the temporal evolution of this symptom, in regards to the way we induced it with sensorimotor conflicts, model the brain data with a general linear model and identify the brain sources responsible for this sensation in healthy people. It is noteworthy that in Blanke's Lab we were able to induce this sensation experimentally for the first time without resorting to brain stimulation or drugs. By studying how this sensation evolves in healthy people we hope to understand better it's phenomenology on patients.Alongside with this project, I have participated in two other projects from the lab. This work requires skills in Neuroscience, Signal Analysis, EEG, Neurophysiology, Brain Modelling and MATLAB. Apr 2017 - Aug 2017
      Junior Software Developer

I joined Affinity's internal software development department as a Java developer. My main goal was the development of a RESTful API for a new web-service being developed by the company. This required the knowledge of Java 8, Spring, Hibernate and Envers, alongside with some other technologies. Some noteworthy contributions include the implementation of Json Web-Token authentication and role-based permissions with Spring Security. I also developed several modules for this project, such as ticketing. Show less

"Neuroengineering of hallucinations through fMRI neurofeedback: Understanding and modulating neural dynamics for the control of hallucinations in healthy and disease"My PhD thesis was to highly translational applications of neural processes of hallucinations. I successfully identified neural mechanisms responsible for one specific hallucination and conducted a major project to have individuals gain control of said hallucination neural mechanisms. While this was done in healthy inviduals as proof-of-concept, I then was responsible for assessing these same mechanisms in patients with Parkinson's DiseaseDuring this time:I successfully ran a real-time fMRI neurofeedback project and programmed a cross-platform program for its implementation (MATLAB, python, C++)Acquired clinical experience by testing healthy individuals and patients with Parkinson's Disease for multiple projects Analysed behavioral and fMRI data for various projects, focused on dynamic connectivity and network interaction (SPM, CONN, CAPs, R, statistical modelling)Was responsible for coordinating fMRI analyses across a multi-center collaborationKey-role in project management in an international multi-center projectSuccessfully wrote various first-authorship papers and participated in grant writingCoordinated the meetings of an internal lab groupPresented in several conferences with oral and poster presentationsMore than 360 hours of teaching experience in neuroscience and programming Show less
