Show less The Director of Internal Communications and Affairs serves as the primary liaison between the Board of Directors and the Senate. The powers and responsibilities, as outlined in the 2017 ASUWT Bylaws, are as follows:- Chair the ASUWT Senate meetings as a non-voting member and act as the primary liaison between the Senate and Executive board.- Prepare and submit Senate agendas via email to the Office of Public Records and Open Meetings no later than one week prior to the meeting.- Maintain all official documents of the ASUWT Senate and ensure that they are publicly available on the ASUWT website.- Ensure that the current academic year's resolutions, bills, and meeting minutes be publicly available via the current ASUWT multimedia and websites.- Ensure compliance with Senate and Executive governing documents by reporting to each body and suggesting bills, amendments, or other resolutions to issues.- Complete assigned projects and tasks as directed by the ASUWT President.- Assist the ASUWT President in conducting open hiring processes for ASUWT staff and Executive Board vacancies.- Supervise and direct the Office Manager.- Required to work nineteen and a half (19.5) hours per week. - A minimum of ten (10) hours must be served in the office per week. - The remaining hours can be fulfilled however necessary to fulfill duties as outlined in the ASUWT Constitution and Bylaws. The powers and responsibilities, as outlined in the 2014 ASUWT Bylaws, are as follows:- Regularly attend ASUWT Senate meetings and all ASUWT functions and events as able.- Check mail and office mailbox daily responding within twenty-four (24) hours during schools days to any requests, excluding weekends (Saturday and Sunday)- Read the Constitution and By-laws and have working knowledge of the responsibilities of the ASUWT organization.- Give an individual report once a quarter at a Senate meeting regarding the state of their academic unit, student interests, and opinions.- Read, review and vote on the legislative agenda brought forth by the Director of Legislative Affairs. A two-thirds (2/3) vote of the Senate is required for approval.- Read, review and request changes to the agendas of the Executive Board.- Listen to Students at Large regarding issues affecting the Student Body.- Promote students’ interests and needs through participation, advocacy and representation.- Manage policies internal to the Senate, including the Senate Bylaws.- Hire and confirm Senators to fill a vacant seat- Approve Changes to the ASUWT Executive Bylaws brought forth by the Executive Board.- Approve the Election Calendar and Election Code brought forth by the EAC.- Request and receive reports from the Executive Board on items of student concern.- Formulate official opinions on behalf of the student body of the University of Washington Tacoma.- Confirm appointments to fill vacancies on the Executive Board.- Interpret election policies and resolve election disputes.- Remove members of the Executive Board and Senate, according to the procedures laid out in the constitution and bylaws.- Request action from the Executive Board on items of Student Concern.- Create committees to research and investigate student issues of concern. A Board Governance Intern for the Tacoma Symphony orchestra was tasked with observing Board of Director meetings for governance practices, attended Leadership and Governance committee meetings, and developing an end of quarter project with governance recommendations.
