      Curriculum Development and Teaching Activities:As Graduate Assistant, was responsible for the development of a proposal to expand post-secondary education opportunities for individuals with severe physical disabilities, examine best practices from programs across the United States, and synthesize these findings into a workable model for the Auburn University community.. Other activities included* Represented the Center at a statewide committee that addressed securing community-based services for individuals with disabilities* Assisted the research and program evaluation unit with the development and maintenance of a literature repository for use with future grant writing activities* supervised undergraduate interns within the program evaluation unit* Updated Rehabilitation Professions, Programs and Services, a survey course designed to familiarize students with the foundations of vocational rehabilitation; updated content areas included disability and the law, disability demographics, disability culture, and public and private rehabilitation processes* Served as the instructor of recordAssisted professional staff in addressing the objectives and mission of the Center, including: * Collaborated with professional staff to manage assistive technology assessment & demonstration lab* Provided feedback to professional staff during client assessments* Performed demonstrations of equipment and guided tours of the facility for various groups, including university students, funding entities & consumers with a broad array of physical/intellectual disabilities* Deployed and maintained communication strategies for annual, statewide assistive technology conference, which was attended by 300 participants, including 50 individuals with disabilities and their support persons* Designed and maintained social networking platforms, & served as primary contact for inquiries from the public* Coordinated & supervised approximately 15 volunteer staff during annual conferences Show less

      Abilities Unlimited, LLC, is a social service consulting firm that provides technical assistance and grant management to organizations committed to enhancing community living opportunities for individuals with disabilities and our aging population. Our flagship initiative in this area is Accessible Alabama.Accessible Alabama engages the public, private and non-profit sectors to help Alabama communities increase accessible housing capacity to meet housing needs and to prepare for the accelerating demand as the aging population grows. Accessible Alabama seeks to build bridges between housing development stakeholders and the needs of people with disabilities, by working collaboratively through the sharing information and innovation, increasing the awareness of community needs.The programs and services offered through Accessible Alabama are supported by both project-based grants and fee-for-service contracts. Since 2013, Abilities Unlimited LLC and its predecessor—SolutionsWork, LLC—have secured more than $700,000 in contracts and grants for the Accessible Alabama initiative. Federal and state partnership awards have included grants from the Administration on Community Living through the Alabama Council on Developmental Disabilities, and funds leveraged with developer partners from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development via the Alabama Housing Finance Agency.
