My current research focuses on the study of social determinants of child and adolescent development in disadvantaged groups, mainly low income and immigrant children. In addition, I have specialized in implementation science developing and evaluating early education and parenting intervention for disadvantaged children.I worked in several projects:- Evaluation of the Getting Ready for School (GRS) intervention. GRS is an intervention for teachers and parents designed to promote low-income preschoolers’ readiness for school by helping them develop early literacy, math, and self-regulation skills.- The Moms and Children Columbia Study. This study aims to examine the impact of Room to Grow on economically disadvantaged mothers and their children. Room to Grow serves families from just before their child's birth through age three, and offers a three pronged intervention providing individualized parenting education and support, high-quality material items, and specialized referrals to community resources.- The CAMINANDO study which examines sources of risk and resilience that contribute to post- migration health in immigrant youth age 12-18.-The COMMIDITA study which aims to study dietary practices of Latino immigrant families that may contribute to increased exposure to suboptimal folate intake and to measure the impact of suboptimal folate intake on neurocognitive outcomes in low income toddlers born to Latino immigrants.- I also lead a mixed-methods pilot study that aims to understand the parenting experiences of survivors of human trafficking. I received funding from the NYC Department of Health and Mental Health and Oak Foundation. Show less I worked in the division of Population and Family Health at the Mailman School of Public Health in Dr. Helena Duch's lab. I worked on the evaluation of a preventive intervention (CARING at Columbia) aimed to enhance children social-emotional development trough parent child play. My principal tasks were: recruitment and assessment, training research assistants, conducting statistical analyses, literature reviews and presentation in conferences. In addition I obtained a 6 months fellowship from the Alicia Koplowitz Foundation that will allow me to continue doing research in the Mailman School and finish my PhD in clinical Psychology.
