Master of research Ceramics Materials Processing and Surface Treatment

Additionally, DEA program (Diplôme d’Etudes Approfondies) equivalent to a Master’s degree “Ceramic Processing and Surface Treatment” obtained in September 2004.Modules studied: Materials science, processes science, ceramic materials: structure and microstructure.

    • Robert Gordon University

      2004 - 2010
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Materials Science

Title: Specific And Non-Specific Interactions On Carbon Material SurfacesDepartment: School of EngineeringSupervisor: Prof R H BradleySummary: Oxidised and untreated carbon materials (Carbon blacks, activated carbons and carbon nanotubes) have been used to explore the respective influence of porosity (pore size distribution (PSD), pore structure) and surface chemistry (oxygen-containing functional groups, surface oxygen concentration) on adsorption of different vapours.

    • Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Céramique Industrielle

      2001 - 2004
Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) Ceramics and processing

ENSCI (Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Céramique Industrielle) is the unique French engineering "college" specialized in industrial ceramic materials.Modules studied : Materials science, mineral material and processing, geology, applied science for processing and engineering, business and management studies.

    • DGA Techniques aéronautiques

      Jul 2002 - Aug 2002
      Engineering Trainee

CEAT (Aeronautic Trials Centre of Toulouse) / DGA TA, Balma, Francehttp://www.defense.gouv.fr/dga/la-dga2/expertise-et-essais/dga-techniques-aeronautiquesIndustrial placement in the Expert Evaluation Department (Materials and Structure Division).Study and investigation of the failure of aerospace components.Introduction to scanning electron microscopy (SEM), corrosion and fractography (study of fracture).

    • SINTEF

      Apr 2003 - Sept 2003
      Trainee R&D Engineer

Supervisor: Henrik RæderIndustrial placement: I worked as a trainee engineer in the ceramics department of SINTEF Materials Technology. My work involved preparation and characterization of electroded multilayer and single-layer piezoelectric components within the European project PIRAMID.

    • Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Céramique Industrielle

      Mar 2004 - Jun 2004
      Trainee R&D Engineer

Supervisor: Dr R Guinebretière & Dr A BoulleDEA Research project: Elaboration of auto-organized (epitaxial) oxides nanostructures by Sol-Gel route – Influence of the density of atomic steps.During this project, I developed my working knowledge on powerful analytical tools: X-ray diffraction (crystallography) as well as the Atomic Force Microscope (AFM).

    • Robert Gordon University

      Sept 2007 - Apr 2008
      Postdoctoral Researcher

CREDO (Commercialisation, Research and European Development Office) and Advanced Materials & Biomaterials Research Centre, The Robert Gordon University, AberdeenSuper hydrophobic activated carbons with controllable molecular gate effects have been developed using heat treatment and RF plasma deposition (PECVD). The following characterisation techniques were used: X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), gas/vapour adsorption, SEM and immersion calorimetry.

    • Gas2 Ltd.

      May 2008 - Apr 2015

My main activity was focused on the development of Fischer-Tropsch (FT) synthesis using ceramic membrane support. I was also involved with the Syngas production team and engineering team regarding the design/geometry of the membrane support and material issues.• Supervising and training of the Junior Research Assistant for all Labs work related to Fischer-Tropsch and other characterisation tasks.• Active involvement in Pilot Plant design: FT reactor design, Operational and Process point of view and P&IDs.• Working together with the Modelling team regarding the 2D/3D FT simulation on Ansys and Process simulation using PRO/II.• Design and draw membrane geometry for both Labs and Pilot plant scale reactors using AutoCAD.• Corrosion study on reactor and tubing materials (NDT testing).• Mass and Heat balances calculations.• Commissioning, operation and performance optimisation studies of 24/7 DCS FT pilot units and implementation of new technology and hardware.• Data analysis and characterization of membrane performances (GC for gas analysis, GC/MS for analysis of produced liquid hydrocarbons, SEM/EDAX, Chemisorption).• Compiling and reviewing monthly reports.• Designing, setting up and construction of first membrane FT reactor prototype.• Liaising with our main material supplier (French company specialised in ceramic materials) regarding ordering, production weekly update and new product development. This is a continually expanding part of my role within GAS2.• Proactively contributing towards data and membrane traceability and quality control.• Ensuring that all work carried out complied with the company’s health and safety policy (COSHH and Risk Assessments).
