      Environmental Protection Resource Assistant

      Worked on a team of Resource Assistants to perform daily tasks needed to maintain the DEEP standards for Harkness Memorial State Park. Identified and cleared invasive plant species and dangerous debris found in and around the park. Worked with other team members to analyze weather patterns to find optimal times to trim certain plant species to lower plant growth period. Spoke with park guests about the regulations and locations of protected land in the park.

      Developed a method for separation of lignin from lignocellulosic material using naturally occurring enzymes to increase industry desired paper characteristics and decrease harmful chemical use. Work in the lab on a biweekly basis, studying veratryl alcohol oxidation and veratryl alcohol yield when different parameters are placed on a system. Focus on the effectiveness of the enzymes during temperature change over a fixed period of time. Worked as a teaching assistant in a General and Organic Chemistry Laboratory. Assisted the professor by inspecting each students scientific set up, critiquing and explaining processes when needed. Described different scientific procedures and instruments to students, such as spectrometry, spectroscopy, distillation, and REDOX reactions. Tutored multiple students in a variety of mathematic and scientific disciplines , which included Calculus I, Excursions in Mathematics, Statistics, Organic Chemistry, General Chemistry and General Biology. Tutored students on a weekly basis in person as well as over video conference using technology to demonstrate the skills needed for specific units in each students respective classes. Aided professor to improve an analytical method of quantifying nitrate in freshwater samples. Developed an in situ measurement of nitrate using Diffusive Gradients in Thin Films (DGTs) providing quantification of nitrate in river water over prolonged periods of time. Worked in the lab on a weekly to biweekly basis, testing the DGT devices for possible interferants and studying nitrate concentration in the Hudson River.
