Experience

University of California, Riverside
Apr 2014 - Jun 2017As a former tutor at the Academic Resource Center (ARC), I worked directly with undergraduate students providing academic assistance in various college coursework including Biology, Chemistry, Math, and Physics. The responsibilities of a tutor include, but are not limited to, the following: offering one-hour tutoring sessions in the ARC, working one-on-one and in small groups with UCR students, maintaining a weekly tutoring schedule, keeping accurate records and use required forms, developing and maintaining relationships with students, instructors and staff, create tutor advertising and promotion, and being a tutor spokesperson and ARC ambassador. Show less As a Health Professions Advising Center (HPAC) Medicine Peer Mentor, I provided guidance and support to aspiring pre-medical students and helped them become well- rounded, competitive applicants to professional programs. The HPAC peer mentor cohort are highly involved in campus organizations, community programs, and research. These distinguished student leaders work with multiple mentees on a weekly basis, sharing information with them and providing consistent guidance and encouragement that will help them become well-rounded students and competitive future applicants to health professions programs. Show less As a CNAS Ambassador, I served as a student representative for the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, serving as a host during official functions, making presentations where required, and engaging with multiple professional communities. As Vice President, I trained Ambassadors to lead CNAS tours, coordinated with various departments to create specialized routes, led meetings alongside divisional deans, and outreached to local schools, tutoring underprivileged students in Math and Science on a weekly basis. Show less As a research assistant for Dr. Monica Carson, I not only performed various wet-lab experiments that culminated to my University Honors Research Project, but also coordinated undergraduate lab meetings, managed general lab safety, and helped train all new members rotating through our research lab. Experimentally, I aimed to determine whether exposure to common fungal antigens triggers systemic allergic inflammation and induces an inflammatory response in the CNS. After performing multiple qPCR experiments and data analysis, I presented my thesis, "Adult mice exposed to aerosalized Alternaria exhibit neuroinflammation in the brainstem, but not rest of brain," at the Undergraduate Research Symposium. Show less In Spring and Fall of 2015, I had the exclusive opportunity to serve as a Honors Discussion Leader for two University Honors courses: HNPG 1B: "Motivations of Being an Honors Student” and HNPG 2A: “Principles of Civic Engagement.” In this position, I functioned similar to that of a Teaching Assistant, attending lectures, preparing discussion material, and leading conversations that reinforced the topics covered in the Honors lectures. I upheld a classroom environment conducive to learning and suitable to the physical, social, and emotional development of Honors students, and because of my contributions, I was awarded the University Honors Student Leadership Scholarship in 2016. Show less As a Highlander Orientation Leader, I had the honor of helping over 4000 first-year students and 2500 family members transition into UCR by conducting presentations, providing resource information, and mentoring students along the way. Because of my positive attitude and leadership skills, I was invited to return as a "Special Returner," responsible for mentoring new Orientation Leaders on things like cultural competency, professional development, public speaking, and small and large group facilitation. In this role, I learned to interact effectively with diverse populations, lead and troubleshoot any issues that arose, develop a cohesive team, and provide excellent customer service to all. COPE Health Scholars
Jan 2015 - Apr 2016RCH - Clinical Care Extender/COPE Health ScholaThe COPE Health Scholars program provides pre-medical students like myself unprecedented access to direct patient care and the opportunity to serve those in need. I rotated through five different departments: Orthopedic Surgery, Medical Surgery, Emergency Department, Labor and Delivery, and Operating Room, and committed over 283 hours at Riverside Community Hospital. As a volunteer, I got to work directly with the patients, offering various types of bed-side care and observing in trauma cases, C-sections, and surgeries later in my internship. Through this experience, I understood medicine from the patient’s perspective, and realized working in a clinical setting is something that I value. Show less

Loma Linda University Medical Center
Apr 2016 - Jul 2016Loma Linda - Medical Scribe, Emergency DepartmentAs a medical scribe at Loma Linda University Medical Center, I accompanied the physician during patient consultations and organized and transcribed patient history, physical exam findings, lab tests, procedures, diagnoses, and follow-up information in the Electronic Health Record. I familiarized myself with the medical terminology required to work in this fast-paced environment, and developed real- life insight into the day-to-day functions of an Emergency Room physician.

Riverside Free Clinic
Jun 2016 - Mar 2022As the Medical Student Manager of the Riverside Free Clinic, I not only served on the RFC Board of Directors to represent the medical students’ interests and perspective at board meetings, but also oversaw all pre-clinic preparations and in-clinic functions. Specific responsibilities include: maintaining communication with other members of the board, supervising clinic flow, addressing unexpected problems that may arise in clinic, recruiting and conducting training of first-year medical students, leading meetings with committee officers, and ensuring fundraising efforts that are sufficient to fund all clinic operations (grant proposals, banquet planning, etc.). Show less The Riverside Free Clinic is a non-profit organization that provides free, long-term medical care to low-income and homeless populations in the Riverside Community. As a former member of the Fundraising Committee, I worked to keep the word “Free” in “Riverside Free Clinic.” I recruited various businesses to donate money and goods towards our Annual Fundraising Banquet, and in 2017, I helped raised over $16000 which went directly to the patients we served. In-clinic, however, I helped oversee the various day-to-day operations within the clinic, including assisting the Intake Committee with admissions and observing interactions between medical students and patients. Through RFC, I gained a deeper insight into the extent to which our local community is disadvantaged. I developed a deeper appreciation for the services we provide to these underprivileged people, and I have become a strong healthcare advocate towards serving the underserved in my local community.
