      Industrial Trainee

As part of my studies I spend my third year in industry. I chose IBM as one of the leaders of the industry and had my 12 months extended right up until recommencing university. During this time I worked in the Solution Test team, a small team of around 8 members who designed, developed and tested customer-like scenarios with IBM's software.I was also involved in a summer project where we developed a micropayment prototype within Doom, to track time spent, distance moved and bullets fired, such that these could be used as metrics for payment. Software Engineer

I joined IBM straight from University having worked there during my degree on a sandwich year. In my 13 years I have worked in many different teams, starting in Solution Test. This was a cross-product team designed to create large scale customer-like scenarios to ensure software was a easy to use as possible. After 4 years there, I moved to the newly established development team for WebSphere Service Registry and Repository (WSRR) where I worked as head of System Test. I remained in the WSRR team for almost nine years, but changed my role during that time. I was variously responsible for system test, performance and load test, FVT test and at the end I led the development for WSRR on PureApplication, a system which fully automated all the installation and configuration tasks for running an enterprise WSRR installation. After WSRR I moved to the IBM API Management team, specialising in testing their software as a service (SaaS) offering where I have worked to date. This work has been very challenging, carrying out load and performance test, migration test, FVT and SVT for a version of a product which is running live with real, paying customers. Show less
