I worked on an ecological study design in which I was engaged in analyzing environmental asthma exacerbations in the Region 4 states (Southeast) and creating an environmental/public health survey instrument in which EPA Region 4 will use to target areas that are at greatest risk asthma hospitalizations due to air pollutants. Specific task included: (1) obtaining asthma hospitalization discharge data from Region 4 state health departments via email, phone, and filling out data request forms; (2) collecting air quality data from the National-Scale Air Toxics Assessment and the EPA's Air Quality System monitoring database; (3) configuring the correlation between the asthma data and the air data using Arc Map geographic information system; (4) meeting research weekly deadlines; and (5) presenting my weekly findings in a PowerPoint presentation setting.
