      My research focus was on the impact of technology on human rights. Some of the topics that I have worked on are: the potential impact of Information and Communication Technologies on the rate of domestic violence, the role of technologies in human trafficking, companies' approach to implementing human rights policies in regards to Internet of Things, and the role of internet access and mobile-phone applications on the current refugee crisis.

      I research human rights implications of new technologies at Stanford Global Digital Policy Incubator (GDPi). My current focus is mostly on social and human rights impacts of artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies. To come up with impactful and practical digital policy, I see myself as a translator between technologists, human rights scholars, civil society groups, and government officials.

      As a Practitioner Data and Democracy Fellow at the Karsh Institute of Democracy and the School of Data Science at the University of Virginia, I will develop an open-source tool to enhance the transparency of US government AI procurement practices. The goal of this tool is to define transparency criteria, extract relevant procurement data, and enable more effective scrutiny of procurement practices, thus promoting transparency and accountability in public-private partnerships.

      3rd place winner, Twitter’s algorithmic bias bounty challenge Twitter Engineering Aug 2021 I experimented with Twitter's saliency algorithm using bilingual memes. The result shows how the algorithm favors cropping Latin scripts over Arabic scripts and what this means in terms of harm to linguistic diversity online.
