  Process Engineer (Trainee)

  A simulation tool was developed for the Crude-oil Distillation Unit (CDU) with PRO/II simulation software. The CDU consisted of both atmospheric and vacuum distillation columns. Many utility operations were integrated to optimize efficiency (furnace, steam-injection, preheat-train, strip-columns, distillation trays/structured packing, desalination, etc.). The input and reference data was based on the Engineering database, P&ID's and actual plant data from the SCADA system. Product qualities, temperatures, pressures etc. are determined by the grade of crude oil feed that is used in the CDU. With several different crude feed stream compositions it was demonstrated the developed model could accurately predict the performance (bracketing was used). Because of limitations of PRO/II, macros were programmed in Excel. With these macros it was possible to execute many PRO/II runs without intermediate human actions. The developed package was demonstrated to be accurate in calculating the performance of CDU plant. The simulation data matched actual plant data (P,T data from plant SCADA system and product analyses, e.g. ASTM distillation curves, flashpoint, etc.). Show less
