  The Public Health Lab is a microbiology lab that serves the UHL group. I had many responsibilities while working for the PHL, these included; • Receiving of samples delivered by EHO's and from the hospital. These samples needed to be logged into LIMS and prepared for analysis but various methods, including weighing samples into different amounts for different testing.• Completing microbiological analysis of the received samples. This included spread plates, pour plates, filtering and streak plates.• Reading the results of the tested samples and logging them into LIMS.• Autoclaving the waste material and inoculated plates in 2 different autoclaves. • Preparing the media required for microbiological testing of the samples, including VRBGA and Nutrient Broth. These would need to be weighed out, mixed with water and heated until sterile in either the autoclave or on a hot-plate.• Creating dilutions of the positive control to allow for accurate testing. this included staph and E. coli.• Completing weekly stock checks on all lab consumables including swabs, autoclave tape, and pH strips.• Maintaining general housekeeping of the lab and office area. This involved wiping counters down with IPA and disinfecting desks and equipment. Show less

  Within QC in Visoncare I was responsible for various duties and tasks including;• Maintaining training records to a GDP standard. • Completing visual analysis of the contact lens cartons for discrepancies in lot number and product information. • Measuring the diameter and power of a statistically sampled group of lenses. • Checking for visual defects within lens pattern and composition, for both production and engineering.• Checking package integrity to ensure the vacuum of each lens remained in-tact.• Maintaining stock within the lab and ensured a FIFO method was used for consumables.   Within QC my responsibilities include;• Biochemical testing of prefill components and postfill packs, for routine IA batches and Serology batches, on Access 2’s and DXI’s. Including making of prefill packs per SOP and completion of Top Mo’s. • Biochemical testing and tabulation of prefill and postfill Calibrators on Access 2’s.• Completion of Product Real Time Stability testing and tabulation as per SOP• Completion of investigation testing, including liaising with Tech Ops and Formulation, if required to aid in root causing an issue. • Handling OOS results as per SOP when they arise.• Completion of daily, weekly and monthly maintenance on the Access 2's and DXI's. Maintaining stock levels within the lab for all testing material ordered from the Marseille site.• Training and on-boarding of new co-workers in prefill testing, postfill testing and microbiological testing.• Creation and Review of COA’s and uploading them onto the Beckman Website.• Review of BHR paperwork including prefill, postfill and real time.• Liaising with people from different Beckman sites including Chaska and Marseille.• Completion of IMF's to allow for materials to be ordered from other Beckman sites.• Completion of CCF's to improve upon the various processes within IA QC.• Completion of label checks provided from the line.• Creation and reviewing of recipes to release products for filling.• Weekly microbiological testing of IA and BV water samples.• Weekly microbiological testing of the environment of IA Formulation and Filling.• Completion of prefill Bioburden and postfill Bioburden RTS.• Completion of AU Bioburden.
