One of the main responsibilties of the job is to ensure effective queue management and a high level of customer service. There are also many legal requirements involved, including ensuring staff follow the Task 25 initiative to ensure no underage alcohol or tobacco sales take place, and daily legal checks to ensure the safety of staff and customers alike.   As the Checkout Manager in the Welshpool branch of Tesco I have the responsibility of managing a team of 40 colleagues and 4 team leaders to ensure we deliver the best service for our customers. Our customer survey results have improved vastly since I started, we now achieve excellent results with many of the key questions receiving 100% from our customers. Our queue management has improved also, we now pass our queue management targets every week following the 1+1 system (one customer being served and one standing). I am also responsible for ensuring all of my team are trained to a high standard to deliver great customer service and follow all legal requirements regarding age restricted sales. In my role I am also required to be duty manager several days a week, which involves running the whole store, ensuring every department follow their routines (code checking, stock replenishment, hygiene, security, cash handling etc) Duty management also involves ensuring the cash office follow all routines and that the safes balance and all security procedures are followed. This role requires me to make decisions which affect the whole store and problem solve on a regular basis. It is a fast paced role in which I have thrived. Show less
