      Mental Health First Aid Trainer

My role as a Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) trainer at Mental Health America revolved around outreach to and education of the community and relevant organizations in North Coastal and North Central San Diego county. I regularly attended community collaborative meetings in these areas and populated a list of community-based and other relevant organizations in order to share about the free MHFA training I was able to provide through a county-funded grant. MHFA is an 8-hour training that teaches the skills to respond to the signs of mental illness and substance abuse. Show less

    • The Hub

      Aug 2017 - now
      Founder / Community Organizer

Alongside some good friends with a shared vision, I started the Hub in the late summer of 2017. The Hub is a faith-rooted space where we hope to offer folks living on the streets in the neighborhood of City Heights the dignity and respect they deserve but don't often receive. Volunteers at the Hub walk the neighborhood to meet and invite people living on the streets back to the City Heights Coffee House where we offer free donuts, coffee, and warm relationships. I facilitate briefings, debriefings, special events, and strategic partnerships. Show less

    • East County Case Management

      Aug 2017 - May 2018
      Case Management Graduate Intern

As a Gradate Intern at County Case Management, I was able to work closely alongside a team of case managers from various disciplines within the mental health field. This position allowed me to carry my own caseload of clients with severe mental illness to whom I would provide the following services: regular meetings and check-ins, solution-focused and behavioral therapeutic interventions, transportation, advocacy (e.g. calling doctors, going to the SSI office, etc.), and related case management services. Outside of face-time with clients, I became fluent in using the Cerner/Anasazi database and writing notes to be approved for this database. Show less

      Psychosocial Rehabilitation Specialist II

The Psychosocial Rehabilitation Specialist (PSRS) position allows me to have extended time on the floor of this locked unit with clients experiencing severe mental illness. Some of my main duties include running groups (e.g. Meditation, Community Meeting, etc.), checking in with individual clients, assisting clients with their activities of daily living, maintaining a presence on the floor of the unit for safety purposes, and responding to codes when a client is in crisis.

    • Grossmont College Student Health

      Aug 2018 - May 2019
      Mental Health Counseling Graduate Intern

As a Mental Health Counseling Graduate Intern, I carry my own caseload of clients and provide therapy or case management services based on the person's needs. Our services are open to any students at Grossmont College who are currently enrolled in classes; because Grossmont is accessible to East County and Central San Diego, the clients we see in our office reflect the diversity of this area, and the presenting problems in therapy are just as diverse. I am responsible for the assessment, case conceptualization, and use of evidence-based therapeutic interventions to aid my clients with their presenting problems in a time-limited and culturally appropriate manner.
