I was on a team that was renovating many of the classrooms in the building over the summer. The job was mainly painting the classrooms and moving furniture, but I did get some experience gardening and sanding furniture. I left that job as a personal choice to pursue ministry opportunities the rest of that summer. I will returned as an x-care teacher in the fall.

      Extended Care Teacher

I gained experience supervising children in programs before and after school. Over my entire time there I worked with kids from Kindergarten to 8th, however most of my time was spent with 4th-7th. It was definitely a great experience and I am very happy to have been apart of the team there. I left employment at Highlands to spend the next semester focusing on my education.

      Extended Care Teachers

I returned to Highlands, because I missed the kids and my coworkers. I was expecting to work in the same program as I had when I left, but was delightfully surprised that the department got a new director. Mrs. Rubio effectively changed the whole program from its roots and developed a new system that aimed at building community amongst the grades and a diverse set of after school activities that gave the kids an insight into the vast world around them. I was proud to work on the team and help 'build something' as Mrs. Rubio always said. This time around I mainly worked with a large group of 2nd graders (~35 in all) that led me to the realization that taking care of children is like herding cats. With a heavy heart I left the program again to focus on my studies in the Spring semester. Show less

      Student Assistant

During my time at the MESA center (a STEM tutoring and learning center) at Skyline College my job mainly entailed peer tutoring students who are enrolled in STEM classes I have already taken (Math, Chemistry, and Physics). It was very rewarding for me since I have personally benefited from the tutoring and the environment at MESA (I've spent most of my time there since my first semester at Skyline). The atmosphere is very relaxed -Professor Fredricks, the dedicated man who runs the center, has seen to that. It is a place where students are able to study, hang out, and talk about their education and career goals and I love being apart of it. I stopped being an employed tutor when the center lost funding, but am still a volunteer tutor there. Show less

      Aug 2017 - Jun 2019

As the Lab Assistant for the Physics Department at Skyline, my duties included setting up the equipment for student labs, helping to repair broken equipment, and assisting the Lab Technician in general. As a Supplemental Instructor I held study sessions, tutored students, and gave pseudo-lectures to tie concepts together. I was SI for a Calculus I (Differential) class and a Calculus II (Integral) class. I enjoyed being an SI because it allowed me to interact with the next generation of STEM students at Skyline and further solidified my knowledge of the subject.

Through this position I increased my knowledge of consumer computers, tablets, cameras, and drones, as well as gained experience as a salesperson and working with customers in that context.
