  Analysis of Defects in Thermoplastic Composites for Automotive Application (Professor Marco Beghini, Professor Olivier Allix).The thesis focuses on the analysis of thermoplastic matrix composite materials applied to the automotive industry, in substitution of metallic materials. From the informations provided on the types of defect encountered, a classification was set up in terms of detectability, dimensions, hazardousness and other features. The first part of the work consisted in studying the literature of defects in composite materials to understand their harmfulness. The second consisted in the realization of a technique to recover the defects' intensity from the critical buckling load of specimens, manufactured and tested during the internship. Show less

Ph.D thesis title: 'Analysis and characterization of the impact of defect of thermoplastic composite: mechanical characterization and approach by Virtual testing'. Supervisors: Professor O. Allix and J. Lamon. Inverse approach based on buckling to identify manufacturing defects, a comparison between measurements and simulations allows to identify the flawed areas on the specimens.
