      As an amateur astronomer, enjoy learning a variety of topics related to astronomy; from visual astronomy, telescope building and other DIY projects, imaging, visiting astronomically related points of interest. But most of all, enjoy sharing it with others through public outreach. As outreach coordinator, I volunteer time at MOSI Skywatch by providing telescope viewing, attend school science nights, scout activities, telescope tutoring, and giving talks at club meetings. Coordinate with other MARS club members to volunteer at outreach requests from various groups. Reaching out to make new contacts and relations with school districts, libraries, scout groups, parks and preserves. As Vice President, my primary responsibility was to ensure a line up of speakers for monthly meetings throughout the year, assist the President, and assume his responsibilities when absent.Duties as President include presiding over club meetings, appointing committees and club chairpersons as neccessary.       Primarily responsible for conducting six weeks of Junior Ranger Camps; focusing on environmental, cultural, and science education at Montezuma Well National Monument. Created and edited natural and culturally themed lesson plans for junior ranger camp activities, (children aged 8-14) employing the interpretive methodology of the National Park Service. Themes related to the cultural aspects of the ancient Sinagua people including subsistence, trade, architecture, agriculture, and archaeology. Other scientific themed activities included the geology of the well, understanding the riparian environment, measuring the rate of water flow from the ancient canal, orienteering, assisting guest speakers from Friends of the Well, the Hopi Indian Reservation, and National Park Service archaeologists. Encouraged stewardship among children through "leave no trace" concepts. Responsible for safety of camp attendees through basic first aid, and participated in rattlesnake handling training. Also participated in the research, development and conducting of presentations for evening interpretive night sky programs. Themes included how to become involved in amateur astronomy, our place in the universe, the moon and its influence, and the night sky as a natural resource. Utilized astronomical equipment, and assisted in the promotion of the program through interviews with the local media. Show less
