  Directing Attorney of the Social Security Advocacy Project

  At the Seattle Community Law Center, I assisted individuals struggling to navigate Social Security's complex post-entitlement process. I carried a caseload of 100 clients and assisted in filing waivers, requests for reconsideration, and hearing representation. The issues varied from immigrants receiving reparation payments from Germany because of their status as Holocaust survivors, to unsuccessful work attempts, miscalculated workers compensation income, improperly constructed trusts, trial work periods, extended periods of eligibility, and failure to spend down resources. I developed an extensive knowledge of Social Security Program rules throughout this program. I conducted weekly sessions providing counsel and advice to the community on issues related to overpayments, working while disabled, and medical improvement. I assisted young adults throughout the redetermination process between childhood disability eligibility and adult eligibility. Show less

  At Gustad Law Group, I managed a high volume Social Security and Veteran's Disability Practice. The vast majority of my legal practice centered around Social Security Disability Hearings. I litigated 15-20 hearings per month throughout Washington and Oregon, managed all aspects of hearing development including medical records development and requests, price reductions in accordance with the HiTech Act, and actively preparing client testimony. In addition to hearings level work, I drafted exceptions to the Appeals Council, selected cases for Federal Court Appeals, and eventually developed an in-house Federal appeals program. I developed and implemented case selection criteria for appeal and drafted templates for all aspects of the appeal process including filing complaints, proving service, and requesting to proceed in forma pauperis. My practice at Gustad Law Group expanded beyond Social Security Disability to Veterans Disability Claims. I am a VA accredited attorney who has experience representing over 250 veterans throughout the appeals process. I worked on countless claims, filings notices of disagreement, requesting hearings in front of decision review officers, and in front of the Board of Veterans Affairs. I successfully reopened numerous improperly decided claims. I litigated on behalf of individuals exposed to Agent Orange, toxic drinking water at Camp LeJeune, and suffering from PTSD due military sexual trauma. I've also taken on the local VA hospitals in Federal Tort Claim Act cases due to medical malpractice. Show less
