  The CAVS mission is threefold: provide a 360 degree portal for prospective students, current students, and alumni seeking to get involved with our student veterans; liaise with our network of 3,000+ employer partners to facilitate co-op and full-time employment opportunities that recognize the benefit of adding veteran talent into their organizations; and provide additional financial aid options that mitigate or erase the gaps in education funding for eligible veterans and servicemembers. I have the honor of leading this effort as the founding director of CAVS. Show less Reporting jointly to the Dean of Student Financial Services, the Director of Military and Veteran Affairs is the principal advocate for student veterans at Northeastern. The Director takes a leadership role in proposing, implementing, and ensuring the outstanding quality of policies, programs, activities, and services designated to enhance their educational experiences. The Director serves as the university's liaison with outside agencies, offices, and individuals whose work affects the lives of military and veteran students. Elevating the standing and perception of veterans on campus and in the community is also a goal for the Director. The Director demonstrates a commitment to/passion for the education of veterans, an understanding of the educational areas of interest to this population, and familiarity with the transitional and educational issues that apply. Show less As the school certifying official and Yellow Ribbon Program coordinator, I ensure timely and accurate processing of our veterans' well earned education benefits. From prospective students to those graduating and looking for employment, my goal is to help enrich their academic experience and set them up for success at Northeastern and beyond. Additionally, I serve as the staff advisor to Northeastern's Student Veterans Organization, which the Student Veterans of America named Chapter of the Year in 2013. I also sit on the Veterans' Success Committee which brings student veterans together with representatives of the administration in order to address those issues most important to their population.   Vets Off-Grid (VOG) is an effort to build community while also providing veterans, servicemembers, their friends/family with an opportunity to surround themselves with nature. Numerous studies have proven that time spent in nature has positive physical and mental benefits. VOG is an all volunteer effort with sponsorship from Northeastern University, VFW Post 12158, and RallyPoint.com.
