      Security Officer

For three and a half years I worked part-time as a Security Officer, at first solely as an Event Security Officer and later as allround Security Officer. The Security Company, based in the Netherlands and UK (Showsec), is a company specialised in event security. Example events are football matches, festivals (like Pinkpop and Lowlands) and others like sports or music events. As a team we were responsible for the safety of all people coming to the events. I was often appointed the team lead of my shift (a group of 5-6 Event security officers). As a team lead I was in charge of planning and was overall responsible throughout the shift. In addition, I make on the spot decisions (for example whether to notify the authorities) and de-escalating sensitive situations including fights and accidents. Show less

      Feb 2012 - Jul 2014

As an intern Safety Officer I was assigned to create and revise several procedures regarding workplace safety. The procedures must comply with both EU and Dutch laws & regulations and business expectations. This included the following:Optimize the Lock-out & Tag-out (LOTO) procedures. A system which allowed employees to work safely on, and maintain industrial machines. For this part I was responsible for finishing the current procedures, making them up-to-date, order necessary tools, creating a training program, train and motivate employees to use these new procedures and tools. Incident investigations. During this internship I have been involved in several incident investigations. This included less impactful incidents (for example a truck with a punctured gas tank in the loading bay) to a major accident involving life-threatening injuries (a machine in motion crushing a person). My role includes investigating the root cases of the incident and mitigation plans. Implementing Behavior Observation System (BOS). A system in which employees evaluated each other on safe work behavior. The results of this system were analysed on a monthly basis to accurately address current safety issues. My responsibilities were making sure the evaluations were filed, analysed and I recommended necessary actions. In addition, I wrote the monthly safety communication letter; one pager with a current safety issue which was used by all shift supervisors to make their employees aware of this issue. Chemical, electrical and confined spaces. I was responsible to create procedures and draft permits for working safely with different chemicals, electrical systems with currents ranging from 230 V to 5 kV and working safely in confined spaces. To fund my studies I started a one-man company. Building on my former experience as a carpenter. Projects I executed include small home renovations and all sort of jobs in and around the house. Ranging from electrical installations, plumbing, to flooring and woodwork renovations. In addition, I have been contracted on continuous basis by an offshore company and an independent contractor. At the former I functioned as an operator on heavy machinery. At the latter we build optic fiber networks for the University of Amsterdam, and drilled water wells. The company grew over time but I kept it small since I was still busy with my studies. Overall the company’s revenue is about 75k. Show less
