  Research Engineer Intern

  While working on my masters thesis, I had the opportunity to perform an internship in the R&D dept through Instituto de Telecomunicações, during 7 months. The main purpose was the design and implementationof an algorithm that seeks to resize the network architecture/topology, in a disaster recovery context, i.e. after the occurrenceof network element fault and/or connection breakdown in thenetwork. Both traffic and topology (wireless and optical fibretransmission medium) considerations were taken into account. All procedures/algorithms were implemented in Python, usingJavaScript Object Notation (JSON) data formats along with SQL data, from a realnetwork.   Core and Transmission Engineer

  • Investigation Project P2020 (Research Department): In this project, I was responsible to develop and integrating transmission algorithms into a demonstrator. It was an opportunity to enforce and optimise programming skills. It was also an opportunity to learn and to explore how SDN networks can be configured in GNS3. Experiments with OpenDaylight controller, OpenV Switches, and Cisco OpenFlow Manager were done.• Network Monitoring: This project took place in a set of activities of network monitoring. The main tasks were to gather information such as network stats (packet drops, link utilisation, average delays, mismatch configurations), and to present it to the client in order to suggest some changes in the network.• Training MME MML dumps: This training was mainly to get a notion on how the network operator may have its components configured from the MME perspective. By consulting the Huawei Hedex platform, a simple network audit was made. Also, some training sessions about VoLTE, EPC, and 5G were attended.• Digital Transformation and Automating Processes: Automating processes with Python is one of the main data science use cases in the technological world. Using Python's Library Pandas and JSON data formats, it was possible to increase speed and erase manual process handling regarding CSV and xlsx file processing. In addition, I was supporting the management of the project, having to deal with all stakeholders involved. From timing tasks to risk management and issue reporting.• Data Analysis/IP Planning and Automating: In this project, I was able to apply Python functionalities to rapidly produce some automating routines in this matter. Having a set of finite IPs present in templates (xlsx and csv’s) it was possible to develop some scripts to easily manage those.IP planning is also a key point in this project where one should be assigned some set of IPs to some regions of a network (aka Subnetting).
