      As Research Assistants and Master’s Degree candidates, students conduct dynamic vibration tests on explosive materials to research and quantify material and thermal properties. Utilizing the US Air Force’s research specifications, they tested and reported on the material changes in response to various thermal conditions and frequency spectra. The research contributed to the design of components of the F-35 fighter jet. • Fabricated and tested energetic materials such as PBXN-109 and other government regulated propellants and explosives• Conducted vibration analysis using Laser Doppler Vibrometry alongside piezoelectric and electrostatic shaker systems to determine and track natural frequencies• Designed and constructed temperature controlled chambers to show how samples react to temperatures expected in space and during atmospheric entry• Used and calibrated thermal cameras to achieve accurate data acquisition of samples over a wide range of temperatures• Built and tested quartz crystal resonators utilizing oscillator circuits and Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) to achieve an air sensor capable of detecting Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s) Show less
