  Working a 24x7 shift pattern as a senior member of the Global Technology Operations Centre which is accountable for the overall command and control of the majority of Barclays Bank’s managed IT infrastructure and applications. Performed at a consistently high level in both the Midrange Platforms Lead Operations Analyst role (UNIX systems running AIX, Solaris, HP-UX, Redhat Linux and Windows Server) and the Network Lead Operations Analyst role (WAN and LAN issues, Cisco routers and switches running IOS or CatOS, Juniper and Lucent Firewalls, etc.)Day to day duties included:- Reactive fault detection via alert monitoring of infrastructure, connectivity and applications hosted across multiple UK and offshore data centres, numerous large campus sites and hundreds of remote branches.- Carrying out health checks and all other monitoring associated activities. - Performing 1st/2nd line investigation and technical fixes, preventive maintenance activity and scheduled changes.- Logging, prioritising and updating incident records.- Engaging with 2nd/3rd line technical support, suppliers and third parties when required. - Tracking and managing incident progress, escalating as required with the aim of major incident avoidance. Included remote support of approximately 4000 IBM RS/6000 and Bull Escala servers running the AIX UNIX operating system, hosting bespoke Barclays applications. Also remotely supported branch LAN infrastructure, printers, X-terminals, etc. Required to frequently work weekends remotely co-ordinating server installs and rebuilds with field engineers and supporting power off/on of servers as part of scheduled site power-downs. During my time in this team I held a number of senior positions including Systems Administrator for the local servers, which the team relied on for remote access to the branch servers, Disaster Recovery site co-ordinator and also Lead Technician, responsible for supervising, coaching and completing performance development reviews for my team. Worked on-call over the Y2K period. Show less Involved working a 24x7 shift rota as part of a team dedicated to operating systems for Barclays Bank Africa. We ran bespoke and third party SCO UnixWare hosted applications to provide retail banking via VSAT satellite link to Barclays Bank companies in Cyprus, Ghana, Gibraltar, Mauritius, Seychelles and Uganda. Extra tasks included Sparrow ATM sub-host management and VISA, MasterCard and POS acceptance processing for a number of the countries. Daily work involved managing the online and batch databases to ensure the correct processing was completed in line with service level agreements. The ability to solve problems and accurately log occurrences and resolutions using Remedy Action Request System (ARS) was essential.
