  As both business owner and attorney, I oversaw all legal services and operational functions of a five-member independent association of attorneys focusing primarily on employment law defense. I directed litigation planning and execution, as well as client development, customer relations, and fundraising activities. I led settlement negotiations and provided legal documentation, and developed and maintained our website. Additionally, I maintained my certification as a Specialist in Labor andEmployment Law my licensure with the Ohio Bar Association my SPHR Certification, SHRM status, and Board Certification with the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Spending twelve years in private practice, I was able to make significant contributions to my clients’ success. A few examples include: Enabling a client to stay in business, averting a $12M verdict through successful litigation its behalf after being sued by a major company for trade secret violations. Settling an FMLA case in federal court for $450K less than plaintiff demanded. Arguing and winning before the Ohio Supreme Court, a claim against Akron’s Metropolitan Housing Authority, which was accused of violating the Fair Housing Act. Advising numerous companies on Reductions in Force, assessing potential exposure, and working with key stakeholders to mitigate risks. I've prevented numerous claims of harassment and discrimination by providing legally compliant handbooks and effective policies, and I frequently assist with employee classification and job descriptions to ensure clients' compliance with FLSA regulations. Throughout the years, I have first chair jury trial experience and successfully defended companies sued for employment discrimination; and I also am proficient at workers' compensation law. Show less
