      Feb 2014 - Jul 2014
      Internship

Comparative study of the mitochondrial adaptations that hypoxia-tolerant species (HTS) undertake to sustain in hypoxic environments. Using sensitive high-resolution respirometers, two methods of hypoxia induction (azide and sodium sulfite titration) are compared. The substrate uptake allowing energy production and the ROS release are determined to reveal the brain mitochondrial tolerance to hypoxia of the relevant New-Zealand triplefin fish model.Skills:• Designed and performed the entire study with the help of my supervisor. • Oximetry (OROBOROS instrument), fluorescence (ROS production).• Brought new technical solutions (hypoxia induction).• Supervised a New-Zealand Master student.• Adapted myself to a different culture.
