  ● Thesis work on topic, 'Application of ferric enriched biochar to capture N and P from greywater'. Publication link: http://urn.fi/URN:NBN:fi:amk-201503123081.● Objective: To capture N and P from grey water (e.g. wastewater from kitchen or bathroom) by using biochar.● A filtration test was carried out to study the nutrients (N and P) adsorption capacity of two types of biochar, i.e. the biochars from two different companies, Biolan Oy and RKP Hiili. Both biochars were used in two forms: pure and enriched with ferric sulphate (FS).● Findings: Data analysis of results concluded that enrichment of biochar with FS has a significant effect on nutrient (N and P) adsorption.   ● Title: Circular economy for breweries: utilising brewery wastewater for growing hydroponics hops.● Objectives: A novel approach to finding solutions for breweries to move towards sustainability by recovering nutrients from their wastewater to produce organic liquid fertilisers for growing hydroponics hop plants that can yield dry hops demand necessary for their beer production. ● Findings: When the dry hops use is in small quantity, for example, 2 g/L of beer produced, then most of the nutrient quantity in breweries' wastewater is sufficient to produce annual dry hops demand for beer production.   ● Goal: To do a feasibility study on producing fertiliser from fish sludge produced by a land-based Fifax Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) in Åland.● Findings: Fish sludge has the potential to be utilised as fertiliser. Drying fish sludge and producing them into granular fertiliser could be the best method for recycling fish sludge into fertiliser.● Fifax's fish sludge can replace the demand for artificial N, P and K fertilisers by 63 %, 289 % and 9 %, respectively.● About 6 % N and 7 % P decrease in leakage on the Baltic Sea by the replacement of artificial fertiliser with the fish sludge fertiliser.   This work is part of the Aalto FEC program (20 days courses at Aalto University and 100 days industrial work). I conducted LCA calculations of an innovative biomaterial called Papira made from cellulose foam materials that offers a natural, bio-based, and recyclable alternative for protective and cushioning materials in packaging. I used Sphera (GaBi) software for it. I also produced comprehensive reports and presented the results.

  My research is focused on achieving the SYCLA project’s goal by conducting research on environmental and social impacts associated with sustainable commuting practices and providing suitable solutions. The main goal of this research is to test and implement different interventions and determine the suitable interventions for sustainable mobility in the Lahti area.For the environmental impacts, reduction in GHG emissions, less land use and less biodiversity loss from the implemented interventions will be evaluated. Life cycle assessment (LCA) is the main method applied to evaluate environmental impacts. I am using GaBi software. Show less
