Conducted library, online, and laboratory research to support several projects concerned with drug addiction and its relevance to the development of pain-killer medications. These studies on developing a perfect analgesic agent or pain treatment paradigm involved receptor structural analysis, defining the cellular trafficking of the receptor, and identifying the cellular proteins that participate in receptor signaling and regulation. Approaches and techniques used in these studies encompassed biochemical, molecular biological, cellular, genetic and proteomic analysis of the components involved. Show less

Designed sub-projects of larger on-going research re: the phenomenon of speciation. Utilized data acquired through field research, scientific articles (library and online), and standard laboratory procedures (sequencing gene regions, microsatellite analysis, microarray analysis, developing specific DNA sequence search algorithms). Authored scientific articles on results. Two main projects: - Primary goal of first project was to relate evolutionary history to physical mutations and reproductive isolation in order to elucidate the role these traits may have played during speciation. - Second project characterized species hybrid sterility and hybrid sterility rescue in crosses between two evolutionary related species lines. Utilized a combined developmental, molecular, and evolutionary approach to look at how germline development diverged between the two species. Show less
