MASTER’S THESIS TITLE: The Epidemiology and Transmission of Pertussis in the Saskatoon Regional Health Authority: 1995-2003.

    • University of Saskatchewan

      2006 - 2010
      Ph.D. Theoretical Epidemiology, Complex Systems

DOCTORAL THESIS TITLE: Rebounding Case Notifications of Chlamydia: An Epidemiological Game of Clue?

    • University of Regina

      1995 - 2001
      B.Sc Biology, Statistics
  • Experience

    • Department of Applied Research (College of Medicine)

      Jan 2005 - Sept 2006
      Professional Research Associate

Served as a statistical analyst for a large, interdisciplinary research project of dementia diagnosis and care. The project, itself, was funded by The Canadian Institutes of Health Research. Additionally, I performed statistical analyses on several smaller "Psychiatric Epidemiology" studies of mood disorders.

    • Pythagorus Consulting

      Sept 2010 - Jan 2012
      Post-doctoral Researcher

This was a consultant position for GlaxoSmithKline Vaccines in Belgium. During this 18-month period, I developed, tested, and validated several iterations of a stochastic, dynamical model of meningitis transmission and invasive meningococcal disease. The modelling process was ultimately geared towards examining the benefits (and trade-offs) of several novel vaccine formulations, and vaccination strategies.

      Jan 2012 - Feb 2013
      Professional Research Associate

My primary role in this position is to quantify the "health" of lakes surrounding Uranium mines through the use of traditional ecological indices of species diversity. These measures (and their statistical underpinnings) are being combined with high through-put metagenomic data. Ultimately, these will be streamlined into a for-profit analytical software package.

    • Alberta Health Services (Infection prevention and control)

      Mar 2013 - Oct 2016
      Analyst/Epidemiologist

I was responsible for describing the distribution of healthcare associated infections (such as MRSA, VRE, and C. difficile), and clarifying their impact on patient outcomes. This included developing two provincial surveillance programmes for surgical site infections. There, I gained experience creating clear procedures (and timelines) for collecting, cleaning, and reporting surveillance data. I also gained significant experience collaborating with internal partners and external stakeholders, as well as recommending interventions or quality improvement initiatives. Show less

      Jun 2015 - Jun 2019
      Adjunct Assistant Professor
    • Imperial College London

      Oct 2016 - Sept 2019
      Research Associate

This work was an interdisciplinary collaboration between theorists, clinicians and experimental immunologists. The aim of the project was to understand the relationship between host genetics, CD8+ T cell dynamics and immune control of chronic virus infections including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1), hepatitis C virus (HCV) and human T cell leukemia virus (HTLV-1). My role was to develop novel models and approaches to analyse and interpret new experimental data using a range of theoretical techniques (including ordinary differential equation modelling, multivariate regression, and frequentist parameter inference).
